Got lucky and snatched a set off of eBay. Don't ask me how much I paid! These will definitely help keep the dirt and debris out of those open pockets when the top is down. They should get rid of that wind noise and deflection that gets created by those pockets as well.

I was fortunate enough to be given a pair by a Z4MR owner that was selling his car; they're in the original BMW OEM black nylon bag.

Me too. Too bad these things are so darn hard to find these days, they really look great although I tend to only use them when I know I'm going on a long drive and won't be stopping in sketchy places where the car will be unattended requiring me to put the top up every 5 or ten minutes.

Still no one has taken them to be 3D scanned so that we can get some printed...

Jealous! I've been looking for some of those for some time. Would you be willing to share them to get 3D scanned and printed? I've got a couple of places I can inquire to see if they would be willing to do it for us. Cheers!

Nice find!! I picked mine up from a fellow forum member who was parting out his car when he sold it. They also came with the original traveling pocket/case as well. Consider yourself lucky...these things are hard to come by.

Unsure of left side or right side; this info is part of the casting on the underside:

54 34 0 300 382
228 40-11

54 34 0 300 393
228240-11

Both pieces have a BMW logo cast into the underside.

Yup. I got lucky last year as there was a Canadian supplier that found a dozen or so of these in inventory - I got one set and the rest were sold in a couple of days. I wouldn't ship mine anywhere to be scanned because if they get lost in transit or misplaced, I won't be able to get another set. Dunno if there is any local outfit that could scan them.

3D printing for side covers

Greetings... This thread inspired me to finally register and post. I've been searching for a set of side covers for my 2004 Z4 a long time with no success. A recent eBay auction I missed netted $450 for a pair of these with bag, so there is a definite demand here. This could be an opportunity for someone fortunate enough to have them to scan and 3D print sets for Z4 owners, as others have suggested. Granted there might be an issue with BMW legal, but also a chance to satisfy a need and make a nice profit for themselves in the process.

Just a thought...

Welcome! That gives me an idea. To avoid legal issues, and assuming the tooling still exists, I wonder if BMW would be willing to help out its fans here and do a limited production run of these if we were to get enough folks to commit to buy a set. I'd consider a second set for myself and I have two friends with E85s. So that's three right off the bat. Also, the E85 / E86 remains immensely popular in the UK (just check out www.z4-forum.com) so I'd expect that there would be strong interest from Z4 owners there too.

I found a set on the German eBay site in October and snatched them right up. Took 2 months to arrive at my home in Georgia, but it was well worth the wait. They look great!
