The spiritual forefather to our Z4 Coupe...

I have always thought that the Shelby Daytona Coupe (all 6 of them) were the great grandfathers to our modern Z4 Coupe. The front engine, rear wheel drive layout with elongated hood, near 50/50 weight distribution (45F/55R) and driver sitting virtually on top of the rear axle is the DNA that this rare but very successful '60s race car passed down to our mighty MZ4 Coupe. Had BMW ever had the cajones to install the S65 in the MZ4, it would make the Coupe a virtual descendant to the great Shelby Daytona.

A friend of mine has a Factory Five Type 65 Coupe, a modern interpretation of the classic, and we went up to Angeles Crest Hwy for some video/photoshoot for work. Wish I would have taken the MZ4 Coupe, but we needed something with a back seat so my "crew" can shoot the Factory Five with a hand-held camera out the window.

Anyway, I couldn't resist whipping out my own camera and snapping a few shots of my own. Hope y'all enjoy it.

Really cool looking cars. I saw one at SEMA last year and it was one of my favorites at a show that had everything you could have imagined.

Thanks for sharing.
I stumbled on the Superformance version of the Daytona a few years ago and instantly fell in love.

A Daytona spec poster is one of my favs hanging in my shop today.

I've always loved the Shelby's!!! And that coupe!!!!!

My friend's father had a company called Gear 6 Performance that made kit car/ Shelby replicas.. Was kinda neat seeing them roll around town. Not the same thing, but still cool!

I was at one of the tracks -Miller Motorsports park, where they had recovered one of the race cars that had been dumped overboard after they were banned from racing. I wish I remembered more specifics. I can't find anything online pertaining to the cars being thrown overboard.
