Car Battery

I own a 2003 BMW Z4, and I was wondering if the Z series or any other performance series of cars take special car batteries. I'm asking because I replaced the original battery with a new one without doing homework on the best battery for the vehicle. Could someone please help me out with this issue?

Thank you.

Nothing special about the battery on a 2003 as long as you get the correct size/capacity, even a Walmart battery will work fine.

Yep, I made sure that the vent tube was mounted. Thank you all for the info. I guess I'm just behind in the times. I remember when certain cars took different types of batteries.

You want an AGM vs a lead-acid correct?

Newer BMWs can be fussy about the ampere hours of the battery being replaced. This is because they over-engineered the charging system to be specific to the battery size. You have to either replace with the same capacity battery, or else get your car reprogrammed for the new battery capacity. Luckily that idiocy stayed out of our E85/6 cars.
