Z4 M Definitive Wheel Spec Thread

I don't have the answers YET but let's make this thread definitive and opinion-free. This thread is only for the Z4 M because the offsets are not the same (at least on the front).

Let's stick to verifiable facts about wheel dimensions and offsets. I did a bunch of research and even created a little wheel-and-offset calculator in Excel that you can download to contribute to this thread. In it, the variable numbers are in BLUE and the delta values are in RED. The EXT and INT columns are (in millimeters) the External and Internal distance between the wheel hub's face to the edge of the rim.

The reason why I'm doing this is because I want to get two sets of wheels, 19"ers staggered for summer and 18"ers identical for winter and keep the original wheels for the track.

I don't want to roll any part of my fenders, nor do I want any rubbing.

Original Z4 18" wheel sets don't seem to have the proper offset to fit correctly.

I would also prefer not to have to use any spacers, especially on the front, while keeping the track with the winter set even or marginally wider in the back.

our original wheels are the following size
F 18 x 8 ET42
R 18 x 9 ET30

The original E46 M3 CSL wheels fit really tight with the following specs:
F 19 x 8.5 ET44
R 19 x 9.5 ET27

I spoke with TC Kline about it and he reckons that the following specs will fit under the stock bodywork:
R 9 ET40, 35 and 28
R 9.5 ET25

Currently running:
Fronts = 19x8.5 ET35 with 245/35 PS2
Rear = 19x9.5 ET22 with 275/30 PS2

Rubbing:
-lowered on H&R
- just a touch of rub on fronts... plastic liner right at the fender opening, front edge
- cured with a heat gun 60 seconds / side
- no problem at rear

*note tire selection (profile) will impact clearance issues.

- running non staggered with 8.5" M6 reps

OEM wheels:
- +1 for track use

i simply made mine to calculate in millimeters for more accuracy and to get the delta changes for inner and outer clearance.

the only numbers that you need to play with are the ones in blue.

of course, you can make it for another car if you changed the stock width (in) and ET (mm).

for example, i bought some wheels for the winter that are all 8" wide but ET 40 for the front and 20 for the back. the chart showed me that I needed an 8mm spacer for the rear. that way my rear track was altogether 0.6mm wider.

the 1010tires calculator is fun and it's the one that i used before i got the idea for the excel calculator, now i can have a better immediate view of my whole setup.

Hello, I am very new to this forum, but I just purchased a 2007 z4 m coupe. I wanted to have two sets of wheels and tires for my car (one for the track and the other for the road). I previously owned a Mercedes C32 and I purchased a set of BRABUS Monoblock IV, five-hole design, 8,5Jx18, modular, tires 225/40 ZR 18, optionally 9,5Jx18 modular rear with 255/35 ZR 18. I wanted to know if there is any way at all if these might work with my current vehicle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

would 8x17 ET35 E90 wheel fit the roadster without rubbing? I think it will stick out a bit, but enough to be ok for front and back or...? Or will be issues on the back as it will stick out almost 2cm..

in europe the Z comes with 16 and 17in wheels, hence the question. Does the Z need basically the usual E46 wheel offsets?

Not sure what the offsets are for the E46 but I was offered a set of E46 M3 wheels today, price hasn't been negotiated yet, but was wondering if M3 wheels would fit on a 03 2.5i roadster? Would I need spacers in the rear cause the guy told me that the wheels are 9 inches wide and with tires they are almost 10-11 inches wide, he referenced the with of the rear tires to 12 inches.

Has anyone tried this style of wheel on a Z?

I wanted to ask and see if there would be any problems before I worked out a price with him.

Won't fit your car. Rear offsets are too aggressive. Putting spacers only makes it worse. You can put 4 OEM front E46 M3 wheels on your Z4 if you'd like though.

And he's running 305 rear tires on his E46 M3? Ummmmm.

I'm likely going to run an SSR CompH in 19x8.5" sizing up front. It has an offset of +43 so I may use a 5mm spacer to bring it to 38 which, from what research I've done, seems to be pretty close to perfect. I've seen people saying 35 rubs when lowered so I want to avoid that since I'll likely be lowered. But the spacer gives me the ability to go back to +43 if necessary. In the rear, I'll likely run 19x9.5" sizings with an offset of 35. Again, I could use a spacer either in 10mm or 5mm to get the fitment right.

A lot of people shy away from spacers but if you get good ones and install them right, they're fine. I use studs/nuts so its even easier to remove and swap different plates on or off!

F 19 x 8.0 ET47 - 245/35R19
R 19 x 9.5 ET27 - 285/30R19

No Rubbing at all and it looks great.

A very good winter tyre fitment:

O.Z. Racing Ultraleggera 18x8 ET40 front and rear with 20mm spacers for the rear.
225/45-18 tyres all around, can be rotated if desired.

They will fit no problem (I have the front fitment all round on my car, for my winter tyres with a 20mm spacer on the back). You may want to use a 10mm spacer on the back with 35mm long lug-bolts, although the wheel will just look a bit inset if you don't, but shouldn't rub.

You need to use a 15 mm spacer on the back with those wheels with either wheel studs or correspondingly longer wheel bolts. Readily available from several reputable vendors.
