Mayday! Did I do something wrong?

Had a few codes pop up last week for the lean bank 1 and 2 and also the thermostat heater. Decided to go through and replace a bunch of stuff this weekend. Maf, valve cover gasket, eccentric sensor, valvetronic motor, water pump, t stat, hoses, oil filter housing / heat exchanger seals, belt and tensioner.

Now I have a pending p1030, so something is wrong with the valvetronic. The car was running pretty good on the test drive but then lost all power, feels like it has 50hp. Limp mode maybe? This is on a 2008 Z4C 3.0si with the auto box. Everything looks right so not sure what could be wrong. Also the p0597 code is back but no SEL is on, might still be the previous code.

Tried driving it again, once it got fully warm it went to part power again. Also has a odd intake noise when revved in neutral. Kinda towards the back drivers side. I would think Disa but I didn't mess with those. When I got home I shut it down and it turned back on to full power, still had the intake noise and also is idling at 500 rpm in gear.

Did you go back through and check all sensors were plugged back in? Have done that too many times I would like to admit, especially those that are under the intake...

Double checked everything today and all is plug in, can't see anything wrong at all. Guess it's taking a trip to BMW.

Do you have the old MAF? I would try swapping that back in or disconnect the new one and see how it runs.

Good luck.

I was thinking about trying that and maybe switching back to the old Valvetronic motor. Cant hurt to try. Thanks for the reply!

The new valvetronic motor was bad. Drove for a few hours with no issues or codes. The new motor didn't even want to back out.

Can you tell me what you mean by valvetronic motor? Are you referring to the VANOS?

Sucks that the new part is bad but glad you figured it out!

It's the motor on the passenger side in the middle of the valve cover. Controls the eccentric shaft.
