Chasing interior squeaks
I've got some crickets living in my car it seems (well not literally). Either way I need to drive around with someone over rough roads to find out where the areas of interest are and try to come up with a solution to stop it.
Any regular areas I should pay attention to? I am sure its not a unique problem and hoping its not going to be too difficult to eliminate. But some of that plastic contact in the interior really does sound like a cricket |

I won't speak for all, however I know in my car the navigation screen, cup holders and door locking mechanisms are prone to rattling.

Pretty sure its the old plastic making the noises though. I am planning to apply felt tape wherever possible as a fix but just need to find where. |

A-columm interior windshield trim(where the interior light is) squeaks like hell on mine, in winter, its brutal. Kinda weird,my last Z, it never gave me a problem.

If you lean heavily on back of car/or sit in it and it squeaks... and the emergency brake is engaged... it's the rear emergency brake mechanism. If you disengage e brake... the squeak goes away when you lean on it/sit on the car.

Common areas are:
Seat backs touching the rear trim - make sure you check when you're sitting in the seats. Seat leather rubbing on the side trims. Newer BMW seats have cloth here to prevent noise, but felt tape on the inside of the trim works for me. Cupholders - the piece that drops down typically rattles against the round piece when they're retracted into the dash. Plastic trim around the shifter - check for play. You might have some broken clips.

Had this from European forum zroadster , In E86 chassis we have 4 bolts that holding roof in place two rear bolts tend to get loose

Only relative info I can provide is if your not interested in rattles and squeaks, motor mounts, transmission mounts, poly bushings, and ditching dual mass flywheel will make the car sound like a Mac truck on idle
