Just incase another person has the same issue. Something to check.

Thank you for taking the time for the post. I just "fixed" my wife's Z4 top issue, thanks to your post.

Took a lot of searching to find such a simple solution. But it worked and I am thankful.

Cheers,
Ron

So this problem kept recurring and I had to keep re-fixing the shelf - the last time, it was a bit harder to fix, getting worse. Thought what a crap engineering design. Is this how my roadster will end? one day I was cruising the diagrams on RealOEM and saw the clips, once priced at less than a dollar each. My crap mechanic didn't replace the clips when he replaced the back shocks.
So I had to fork out not 1 dollar for each of the 4 clips, but 10 dollars for each of the four clips from getbmwparts.

Anyone know how to install them? I haven't looked yet.

IIRC, they drop in from the top side while the tray is raised about 1/2 way up.
And they're asymmetrical, so they have to be right way round.

Not going to get much help from someone who posted 2 years ago, but post up a new thread with your specific issue and we'll see if we can help. Need the specifics of when the issue started, exactly what the symptoms are, etc.

I finally found a mechanic who would repair mine (2006 3.0i). The dealer wanted about $2400. The dealer 'examined' it and said that the entire top would have to be removed to inspect further. I eventually found a BMW mechanic who did it at my house and I replaced the pump. It wasn't corroded but I didn't want to reinstall the top and find it was bad. It's a pain in the a** job as you have to squeeze into the trunk to get it out. I don't think it is a favorite job for a mechanic. I would up paying about half of the dealer cost. The job was way beyond my skill set so I didn't want to take a chance on making it worse. Shipkiller's video is the best around.

I am in the processing of sourcing a Mustang motors/pumps. This might be a dumb question, do they come with fluid already in the tank, or do we have to add it? The one I found, is missing the hydraulic line bolts and the tank looks empty. They are asking $125 for this.

Red tab in the trunk

My top won't go down or up . I can hear the hydraulic motor running but thats all. I pulled the red tab in the trunk to release the hydraulic fluid and it goes down manually fine. When trying to get the red tab back in, it won't go back. Does anyone know how to fix this?

It’s a quarter turn valve release… so you need to pull and rotate it opposite way that you used to release…. To engage it
