Hardtop headliner Customization sneak peek

For some time now Ive been working on the hardtop install and Ive been rushing nothing. As soon I received my HT I saw the interior headliner and It was an eye sore....literally. It came with some generic headliner....it was awful.

obviously they out sourced this option.

Soooo....

I decided to go with only original leather from BMW.

Colors: Coral Red Leather, Black Nappa Leather. (not cheap stuff btw)

in the HT there is a concavity which is perfect for inserting a box stitched design
Then heavy gauge red french stitching on all connecting angles. :-)

here are some pictures.....enjoy

if anyone has any inquires as to where i had this done PM me

its obviously not finished but its almost there

Looking at the 1st couple of pictures, I was thinking, WTF? Moving on, I says to myself, "this is starting to look real nice." I think when you post your finished pictures, I am going to be one envious SOB.

Likewise! I wonder if this will cut down on some road noise, or at least the sound of hollow metal when you knock on it from the inside

But I really have no issues with the quality of the headliner, I wouldn't call it awful, just uninspired. And yes they sourced it out, if you look near the passenger side lock, it has the name of the company that made the top, along with the original color name.

The Delorean, now that has an awful headliner.

It will most definitely reduce some vibration and significant noise as well as add some insulation with proper asthetics

easiest way to is duplicate the leather cover you're getting made, ship it to him, and have him install it himself (glue it on with spray glue)

I believe the hardtop is made by the Webasto company and not BMW. They made sunroofs and fabric inserts for tops going back into the 1970's for a number of European cars. The original headliner on my hardtop has already deteriorated after only 5 years. One day it was up and looking fine and the next day it all separated from the foam padding and it all sagged. Literally overnight. Took it to a local shop and they re-lined it in a nice cloth material for $300. Like the leather idea, would make sure it is glued well. The problem with headliners is gravity and the available adhesives.

You don't need a template bro, you have one in the first 2-3 pics, and will have another template from the finished product before its installed on the car
