Couple of reasons here >

1)- The roofs can see upwards of 250* saturated and that is way beyond the Home Depot products adhesive capabilities.

2)- I don't really want my signature attached to a KIT thats lacking in full on thought . I want my customers to be able to open the box...install with ease.....and drive !

Removing the stock roof looks like a royal PITA. It is the one thing that leaves a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to this mod.

The work you are doing looks well though out from plan to execution. Im first on the list for the front brake duct kit btw!

I thought long and hard about the issues for some within the removal initially.

I plan on documenting with pix how I do mine from step one to completion. It is quite possible that I'll even put a tool-kit together with instructions for those who would ask for it.

Once the headliner is removed and the hatch opened up...the rest is quite straight forward to run the piano wire through the old sealant and begin slicing through all the way around.

A razor blade will clean off the remaining solid sealant with about minimal effort.

Not science or skills...just some patience.

The best part about the kits.....the clean-up steps will NEVER have to be done again !

^ that's what I'm thinking too.
I remember reading Sixspeed's write up when he installed his.
It looked very straight forward.

We are extremely fortunate that the design of the coupe's roof makes this WAY easier than it might have been.

I would tape it up first.
A layer of painters tape then a layer of duct tape on top of that.

^^that might work^^ ... I had some first hand experience at this using some hi test fishing wire...it generate soo much heat "sawing" it through the silicone. Its frustrating work!

Based on the attention to detail, and how thought out Dark Schnitzer has been with building this part. There is little doubt that he will provide a thorough DIY.

P.S. Sorry not trying to derail your thread, im still a potential buyer!

I will know if I'm in in the next 1-2 months. Pending race car approval and me kicking a bug that has me considering a trade for a Cayman S.

For sure...a layer of tape whether it masking or aluminum will add confidence and safety as one concentrates on slicing through the 1/4" or so of sealant.

Maybe even a thin piece of sheet metal to move along as a tool. Its all relative to doing an odd job really. To some...its easy, others a struggle.

Hopefully...a DIY with pix will even the field and raise confidence.

Gen II right?

Back on topic, I'm very much in contention for buying this mod. I need to just mull it for a little bit longer. The design and thought as well as other quality that's being brought to bear on this project makes it almost impossible to pass up. The stock removal causes me a bit of apprehension as well, but I thought the same about brake rotors and pads and fluid up to a few months ago and can now do that in my sleep. Looks like patience and good DIY are probably all that's required. I do miss the carbon fiber roof from my E92 (along with the S65, nothing else though), and this is a way to really make the car unique, special, look awesome, and improve the balance. I'll probably succumb shortly.

What's the difference between normal 2x2 Twill and 2x2 Twill V-weave?

Interested but a little worried if fitment will be perfect as with all CF mods...will you offer refunds or replacements if need be?

Like anything worth exploring, it just a few steps in the dark for the pioneers. For the rest who follow....its usually a breeze. All mistakes or learning curves are recorded, improved upon and the next players get a hall pass to cruise, lol.

No worries on the removal folks. The pix and DIY tutorial will put your minds at ease.

Good question !

Basically the weave itself is the same Twill mix.

The difference is that I'll place the cloth in a 'V' orientation with the intersect being dead center of the part.

You'll envision a meeting of a left and right weave direction change. Like an arrow point.

The passenger side of the roof's weave will sweep at an angle back and to the right \\\\......and the drivers side will be the opposite ///////.

////\\\\

For my car...I'll have to do this style for the hood, roof and hatch to pull off the look.

Quite wordy description...sorry,lol.

Also a valid question !

Due to the fact that both of the Z4 Coupe upper body sections to be salvaged for me to use a jig have fallen through ( I guess everyone isn't as handy with a Sawzall as I am,sheesh !,lol)

I'll be using my car as the test fitment jig for each part. Laborious ? Yes. Needed evil ?-YES.

Post production jig testing is paramount in ALL parts I make.

Either way....if your car does not accept the fitment correctly, than YES ....a replacement or refund will be worked out in a reasonable time-frame.

-One of the reasons I'm making parts for this car is simply..I love the uniqueness of it and the challenges in the engineering to get it right. Also...someone at BMW Design Studio NA is supposedly watching what I do very closely.

It will defiantly be good to see how well the tutorial DIY helps guide your install.

Personal experiences need to mirror each other pretty closely on something like this I feel to be a success.

Ahhh IC, that could be interesting.
I'll have to see yours before deciding though.

Finnegan sent me over here to look at this. Probably 'cause he wants one (his rationale: "It's cheaper than an exhaust!" LOL!!). I think his plan may have backfired, since now I'm thinking I might want one too.

I'm beginning to realize I'm never going to get to Hawaii again... Hahahahahaa
