Our angel eye mystery explained!
well tore apart my light after replacing it with the new one and found out a bunch of stuff about our angel eyes.
here are some shots of the parts. first the light is a one peice unit, you cant replace the light itself so all those LED replacments wont work unless its a speacial unit, the light is heat staked in the housing. the inner most lense is painted over, their is a blue paint that makes our angel eye look more blueish white rather than the warm yellow, here are some pics to look over........ |

I've had several of these apart and its funny how the engineers chose to do these up.
Having a standard halogen hidden behind a faux lens just to lamp up the plastic faux angel-eye.....pretty funny I thought. I've got an extra glass lens and lamp I'm attempting to retro-fit so I can have dual functioning beams along with real angel eye surrounds. We'll see if I ever get THAT one finished. |

sorry to bump this old thread but I've had one of my angel eyes die on me recently
what you you mean by they cannot be replaced? I can't change it like any other bulb? also do I need to remove the light + bumper to access it or can it be done easily? thanks

(BA9's) that BMW has, in true BMW fashion, made more expensive by mounting them up in a fixture. PN 63127170858 and about $30 if you dont want to go through the trouble the OP did. You have access panels in the front wheel wells. Should be pretty painless to R& R. I think the OP was referrng to actually replacing the rings that light up when he said they cant be replaced. Those rings can be replaced buttttttt, its not for the faint of heart or you pony up $300, pull your headlights out and ship them to Tekarbon. I've seen their finished product. Buddy of mine has a BSM M roadster with them. This plus the black grills and it looks like Batman is pulling up behind you. Pretty impressive. THis should give you a hint about R&R of the bulb and some more info on a little DIY to just replace the bulb vice the whole fixture. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=315163 Good luck! Hey guys what I was saying "can't be replaced" was you can't replace the bulb with an LED like many where talking about as the bulb is locked inside and heat welded to the black plastic housing. Many were talking about getting the expensive super bright led's like on the newer Audi and BMW lights but what I was showing was just saying there not just a simple plug and play style light.

I'd do Tekarbon in a heartbeat if I had a 2nd set of extra headlights...

i have a spare driver side HID with black housing if anybody wants it. the plastic seal had a leak in it but it be perfect to send out and have modified if you wish, as the seal would be fixed in the process. they could clean it up a bit in the meantime.
just swap out the parts with your parts. or just keep it around incase the leveling motor in your light stops working. $125 takes it. for reference its the light in the pictures lol. |

My sorry Iphone does not do the mod justice but if you e-mail Tek they will send you some pictures. I love the look, I get a lot of glances just by other BMW Drivers wanting to know what that black car is.

okay I feel like a real dummy now. I never had an issue replacing a light in any of my cars.. but I don't see where that damn bulb goes.
Do I need to take out the kind of Xenon cover? if so how? Why isn't this explained in the owner's manual, BMW thinks no owner is cheap enough to do that on their own? that stupid part just cost me $63 through the dealer I don't want to pay them to change it too! Here's what I see with the hood open (for lighting) and the little pass-through removed. Thanks!
