buying exhaust - which one?
I have searched, listened to sound clips and youtube videos.
I want to buy an exhaust for my m roadster. I am looking at remus, and re diablo. I want something that will sound good, not too terribly loud (dont want to make the wife mad). I want to give the M a more exotic sound. Both systems are in the 1200$ range. Which exhaust does everyone prefer? Im probably not shelling out the money for the eisenmann, but it sounds awesome. |

I love my Diablos. But they might be a bit loud for your taste. They are a little loud(which I dig and I'm not a young modder-40ish and loving it. Not married either, but my GF loves the sound. Says it sounds like a little racecar)in the cabin and if you lounge around in any gear at 2000-2200 rpm there is a little drone. But they all drone somewhat I believe. For $1200 they can't be beat IMHO

i think im going to order. I am 26 so im not too old for some sound...
I hate raspy exhausts, primarily on hondas etc.... I don't want to go that route, but then again this is a M, not a civic. |

No rasp. It makes you want to blip the throttle though. If you buy from RE direct it's $1195 then shipping($40-$45 dont remember exactlly). It's that cheap at other places but shipping is much higher. Just a tip. Fast ship too.

Yeah, took em off. Wifey no likey! It's that damn resonance at 2k rpm. Without it I honestly don't think she would have even noticed as they're really not all that loud overall. In fact when I got them on I was thinking i needed to go with headers to get a little more rowdy db level. I did love the sound of them though. I was going to put them back on this spring but I figured if somebody local wanted them I may as well sell.

On a similar but slightly louder note, i'd like to add i heard my car passing on full throttle from the outside for the first time a couple of days ago. Oh dear God it sounds like an animal! Not at all raspy or just boomy. Surprisingly melodious too. Of course from the inside it's completely different. Very primal and gruff. Absolutely screams and the bark when rev matching or heel-toeing is amazing.
I have the RPi system and from what you said it would be far too loud for you but i just wanted to tell someone, anyone about it...

Depends what you're after. If you dont do a lot of highway miles and dont mind the volume you might like the RPI. It's very loud and drones a lot on the highway. Even though mine is a daily driver i can put up with it. The bark when going on a fast drive is intoxicating.
Best thing would be to find someone local to you and listen to their car in person before you decide.

If you're concerned about drone and vibrations then this is NOT the system for you.

i just installed the rpi exhaust. i have no complaints. the sound at high revs is insane. it does drone at low revs but if u keep it at 3000-3500rpms which is what your at mostly on the higway then ull be fine. i can still use the blue tooth. very easy to install, very good quality and if im not mistaken its the cheapest exhaust out there for e85/86. power gains are also noticeable.

I am almost convinced. I was just concerned about power too. cuz without mufflers there is like no low end torque any where. and a delay. so your saying you get sound and power too? hmmmm i like

The downside is the drone at low rpm's. This doesn't bother me, but it puts my wife to sleep on long trips (another benefit of the exhaust ).

hmmmm being able to put them to sleep at will is a plus.....my only concern is losing low end torque.
but could one say that RPI is way better than stock in terms of sounds and power? that would be the decideing factor for me... |
