Question on blown front left Bilstein PSS10.
okay, so my front left Pss10 is shock I have major clunking noises coming from the strut. I wondering if anyone has gone through anything like this and what you all suggest I go about doing.

Wouldn't it seem obvious to contact TMS or Bilstein

Wow good memory!
My question was more directed towards a course of action rather than spiteful retort :-) I will be contacting TMS today but before I do so I will back track and make double sure that the sounds Im hearing are not caused by a bad mount rather than a whole tube. I did some searching and found that the worn mounts can sometimes make similar sounds that blown shocks do. Hopefully its just the mount |

Is it possible that a PSS10 with a lifetime warranty crumbles down in front of some potholes and such?
I highly doubt that, I think there's some other variable than the PSS100 going wrong in this equation |

Contact Bilstein directly Or look for a local suspension tuner that can rebuild them.
Bilstein, Koni etc all offer rebuild services. IMHO it'd be a good time to take them all four to a knowledgeable race shop, have the dyno'd & rebuilt to your tastes. |

If I was a gambling man I would bet that the noise and vibrations you are describing are from something that has come loose and not a blown shock.
You would want to be sure it was the shock before you send it back as a warranty claim. Some companies charge an inspection/testing fee if there is no fault found and rightly so. From what I have seen the Bilstein PSS10 package is excellent quality and value for money.

Well I have pics to confirm the busted pss10 strut.... FML. I hope everyone see this and learns from my mistake. Pss10's and the city don't mix.
You can see where the fluid sprayed all over the wheel well. I really hoped it was a strut Mount. Guess not. What to do, what to do......hmm Last edited by Z4-VILLA; 06-20-2012 at 02:28 PM.. |

I confirmed that my front left shock is done but just for good measure I am removing the entire bilstein suspension and sending it off so that way I can run on stock struts wwhile that thing gets returned to factory spec

So 1 shock will be serviced for free, but what about the other 3? How much are they charging for that?

I believe if you go to Bilstein's website and look under service or warranty there should be a work sheet. Pricing is not bad from I vaguely remember.

so btw in case anyone wanted to know...both fronts were gone. first the left went then 2 weeks later the right eventually failed. upon removal both were separated from each other. It was a big mess. They are currently at Bilstein in Cali awaiting a verdict.

There are parts inside like the piston and the snap rings that are rated at 10,000 pounds and I managed to blow them both out. They think I basically drove the car over a cliff.

Do you remember hitting any big potholes, soon after which the noises started? I think you previously said you live in NYC
