Wanted: OEM (power) seats for '03 Z4.

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
Recently purchased '03 with Black (red stitching) Recaro Turino's. However, I have not been able to find any details on the seats (name plates etc...) and would trade for two OEM power seats or just buy the OEM's outright if a trade will not work out. The seats appear new and would come with the seat frames. I'll get better pics soon, but what I have will give you an idea.

If it doesn't work out with fercho, I'd be willing to do this trade. I'm in NJ. (PS I also would like to know if your airbag light is on).

I'd be willing to drive up to Ohio to do this too. It'd have to be mid-late August though because I'm taking the bar exam in late July. Let me know.

Apologies, I was traveling and didn't have access. Airbag light is on. The seller advertised the seats as Recaro. It is my understanding, the '03 passenger airbag module sensor is different than the years 04 on up. I am getting the dealer to reset the code and I have since closed the circuit with a couple of resistors and diode to emulate the resistance of the airbag seat pad. We'll see. I would prefer the power sport seat, although I can only recall seeing them briefly on a post. I want the power options and need them in black or otherwise, I would have recover extra dollars for reupholstering to black.

I guess I'm confused. You want power seats to trade for your current ones but you want them in black. If they're not black you want cash on top of the trade? How much?

Are you sure they're not Sparco Torinos?

Pics ready.

I have not been able to confirm the brand of these seats. Sparko made a Torino, however, the previous owner said these were not Sparko but Recaro (XL). Again my apologies for not having all the information, but did not receive anything from the previous owner other than he purchased them. Here are the pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/82213092@N05/show/

I did go to the dealer and the reset did not remove the airbag light. The code indicates the passenger side, so my passenger side module may be bad.

If interested, please provide pics of seats you will be trading.

Thanks

The reset did not remove the light because your occupancy sensor is not in place. Aftermarket seats don't have the occupancy sensor, and the 2003 occupancy sensor is different from other model years.

You can either buy and install the occupancy sensor, buy OEM 2003 seats, or install an inline resistor. I built a circuit that allows the driver to turn the airbag on or off, but I haven't been able to confirm it works since I don't have access to a reset tool.

I actually made a circuit using two 100ohm resistors (1/4w) and a diode to emulate the 26.7 lbs needed for the passenger seat pad in the '03 seats, but the reset indicated another problem. So, not sure what else to do. The previous owner had the blue and white wires (coming out of the occupancy sensor, originally connected to the seat pad) connected without a resistor setup and that might have damaged the airbag module circuit.

The dealer told me I would have to buy a new occupancy sensor of I put different OEM seats in the car. I don't believe tha for a minute. But if the occupancy sensor is damages then that would have to be replaced. Any thoughts?

I got:

161k Ohm - resistance with no occupant

8-11k Ohm - resistance with occupant, depending on seating position and weight

What code was returned?

Are you still interested. Do you have pics of your seats. Are they black sports seats? I did talk to the previous owner and he said they are Recaro. I have the pics posted. I'm just going down the order of the post response. Thanks

Apologies, just checking to see if you were still interested. I have a later post who is interested, however, just going through the post as received. Do you have pics and are they the sports style? Thanks

Hi fercho, saw you were online, just checking to see if you were still interested in the seat swap (you posted first). I posted the pics. If you are, do you have pics of your seats (Sport electric?). Thanks

PA Soft 1.4 knockoff $32-40 Appears to work for most things quite nicely

Would the Torque app and bluetooth OBDII work for a reset? The ELM 327 interface was thrown in with my deal, I just haven't looked into the utility of the unit as of yet.
