I need new tires. I see a little discussion above about pss & nt. Is PSS worth the money? The real question is will I know the difference for daily drive and beginner track sessions. Ps: currently using Hankook v12 and looking to replace rears only |

How much tread left I'm front? I'm guessing that torque you have is helping eat tires? Track days will help out--by wearing the front!
It's best to replace tires in sets (4) if possible. New and old tires have different levels of traction, and that can lead to handling issues. Also best to keep the same type of tires if replacing only two. PSS is a great wet/dry tire but rather pricey. NT05 is very good in dry but I'm not impressed with it in the wet--at least compared to the PSS. For a DD that sees rain, and if budget permits, PSS. |

Can't wait til I ditch the V12s. Why did everyone say there were so good? Nobody talks about Bridgestone RE-11 much... any good? They're one of few "extreme summer" brands in my 19" size.

For me personally though, I enjoyed General Exclaim UHPs more than the V12s, but they're the same level/category of performance (quite low). Again, nothing even remotely close to max-performance street tires, but good for all-around and the price. RE-11s are good tires, but they're quite pricey in 19" sizing, so I've been running Nitto NT05s for a longggggggg time now. The NT05s are on par with, if not better than the RE-11s and are significantly cheaper. |

V12's are street tires. I find them too soft in the sidewalls as it is. Not a track tire. Re-11 are probably my next tire. I'm still doing my research

Unfortunately the NT05 doesn't come in 255, which is what I want in front.

To those who have been to Seca before, what brake pads were you using and how did they hold up? I want to sign up for Feb 18th, but now I'm skeptical that my Stoptech pads won't be up to the task. Can anyone chime in?

How did it compare to your day at Thunderhill (assuming you were running those pads also)? I went to Thunderhill back in August (hot) and I didn't have any problems with fade.

It was 100+ degrees at Thunderhill and I did not experience the fade I did at 50-degree Seca. It could have been attributed to my novice status and running slower speeds though. I pushed a lot more at Seca. I'm sure better modulation would help.

Anything close to OEM type pads and/or fluid will fade (for obvious reasons) @ Laguna Seca if you're going at a decent pace in the dry. Anything slower, you'll get by no problems. At least that was my experience with OEM stuff while I was still under warranty. The stealershit hated seeing my car pull up to the service bay
OEM stuff will cool down in between sessions, but will heat right back up once you get started again. However, if you avoid going all-out balls-deep and don't brake too late, then you'll be just fine. I suggest starting your braking early and being extremely light-footed. Use steering to help you slow the car down, and carry the incoming speed into the corners to help you rotate the rear. It's an efficient practice anyhow |
