Brake Question for those with ///M

I just took the car in for the 1200 mile service and I think my wheels were not perfectly balanced since there was a wobble at highway speeds and the brakes vibrated when I tap on the brakes to slow down (not slam on it to stop, but like to slow down on the freeway).

So dealer balanced the tires and said the steering wheel problem improved by 70%, but the break issue was still there. They had me leave the car so they can check it monday morning, but said that the vibration may be normal due to the crossed drilled rotors...

Long story I know, but to those with the M, do you notice any vibration when you step on the brakes? Thanks for the feedback.

No this is not true.

Think they have to change your brake discs.

It's a known issue, that the M Brakes aren't the best and very durable.

That's what I was thinking but the car just passed the first brake in period where I did not even rev over 5k rpm. I have never stomped on the brakes... Is it possible to warp brakes when you've hardly used them?

it's rare if you haven't got on them hard

if your problem only comes in when you're on brakes, and goes away when you let up on the pedal then warped rotors is the only thing it can be
BMW's are pretty tough on rotors, and warp them way more than other makes

the good news is that it's free under warranty

seems like a long time, they must not have the parts on hand

the labor to do that shouldn't take much more than an hour

You are right, none of the dealers in the Bay area had the parts on hand and they missed the 3pm cut off time to get the parts for next day. At least they gave me a Z4 3.0 as a loaner, a few steps down from the M, but fun to toss around

BMW's are hard on the brakes because of the traction control system and what not.

They do a lot of brake throttling to maintain control of the car. You may not be pressing on the brakes, but the computer will be.

Wierd man. Sounds like you got defective brakes from the getgo. Nearing 12000 on mine, brakes are still silky smooth and with plenty of stopping power. I hope your new rotors perform better.

Well...it is my DD and I've had a few road trips the longest of which was 1200 miles one way. It just kinda adds up. I officially move in next week in my boston condo...so it'll stay put for a while
