My wife told him she wanted a Monster but it was a bit too tall for her, he said no sweat come in and we will get the bike lowered for you and make sure it fits....he was going to sell it to us cost, he liked my wife it seems. I'd bought her a bunch of Ducati jackets and shirts from him in the past.

She was pretty stoked with the idea and then she almost got creamed a on her bike a couple of times, the last time was some broad driving an Escalade who was putting make up when she ran my wife off the road, she pretty much parked her bike after that and it got sold a short time later.

We live out in the country now and she talks about riding again, I've offered to take her to see Alex but I think it's past due as she's closing in on 60 and I think is still rattled a bit.

She does still love the Monster though.

Funny, my buddy got the Monster too and had it for a couple years, but same thing, just too many close calls by people not paying attention and he was only safe because he was riding so defensively. And this was by and large around Stoufville area so somewhat country like - as much as NOTL is anyways. So he got rid of his bike too.

He's been getting good use out of his 2009 M3 though, have to hand it to him, he's been doing most of his own maintenance (the stuff he can do anyways) and so far, no major problems or repairs and he's got about 280,000 kms on it.

He's getting nervous that it is a ticking time bomb, but I'm trying to get him to wait to 2021 and he can step into a brand new M3. But he likes the Ghibli and a few of the Jags, and has thought about the F pace SVR too, but a little pricey at $100K.

We were living in Bloor West Village when she had the bike, the broad on the Escalade almost took her out on the Gardiner. She took the riding course and was really defensive and that's probably what saved her as she saw it coming and was lucky there was a shoulder where it happened. We bought her a 79 mini and put a 1275 built motor in it. She get's here kicks in that running around the back roads down here. And she loves driving the 993, I think she actually puts more miles on it than me.

Although we live in DC area, we do not ride up here for that very reason. My wife also loves the Monster, so when we were able to buy a second house, we got one in the country with good access to lots of curvy back roads. Weíve been careful as we learned the roads but itís much safer despite more challenging pavement. My wife is almost 58 and still rides. We do consider getting her a little easier bike, where she sits more upright like my Diavel, but she still loves the Monster too much. It doesnít help that you really donít see hers around anywhere since its a rarer version. Honestly though, I havenít seen too many Diavels, let alone the new one which is what I now have. We are drooling over the streetfighter.

As far as lowering, the new Monster does allow the seat to be lowered without doing anything crazy and you can also get a low seat. I think it can be lowered 2Ē or so just by dropping the back (adjusting seating) and getting a low seat without compromising the ride performance. The old Monster required removing a bit of the spring to get the back lower and could change the ride geometry a little. Fortunately just getting the low seat worked for my wife. She is 5í7Ē like me.

Anyone and everyone who rides has stories of close calls and sometimes even offs, itís part of riding unfortunately. I could tell you a million and one stories of imbeciles on the road who just donít see you or whatever stupid reason they are trying to kill you.

I have revealed my age in another thread and Iíve been riding since I was about 8 and riding on the road since I was 16, quite some years! During that time Iíve had one off on the road where I smashed up my shoulder and one on a race track.

Unfortunately one of the inherent risks riding is you are extremely exposed. Itís how you manage the risk in your attitude and riding style that will see you through. Is it for everyone, no, but it is a great feeling.

At the end of the day though shit could hit the fan real quick, thatís a choice I make and I love it!

If your wife ďreallyĒ wanted the Monster Iíd suggest she may well have gotten it by now

I think she really wanted it, she did love riding and I know she misses it. It also became about competing interests. We both have short attention spans and are impulsive. So between, cars, boats, family cottage, travel and a host of other interests it was easy to take a step back on the thing that almost killed her. I told her I'd support her if she wanted to continue to ride BTW, and offered to ride with her. I've never head a licence but rode off road a lot when I was young.

Someday I'll tell you about the time we went out to buy a piece of fish for dinner and ended up buying a house. Talk about impulsive.

I've ridden motorcycles for decades. You have to have the attitude that you are completely invisible to every one else on the road. Nobody can see or hear you.

Agreed. I've got a R1200GS and a V-Rod Muscle—

The only way to ride is to keep your head on a swivel and take as fact that every other person on the road is trying to kill you!
