I like the video and had watched it a few times. However, they believed EAG's spiel about the latest iteration of the S54 in the Z4M not having rod bearing issue, which we all know isn't the case

Yeah, I noticed that.
But as I understand it, the original problem with S54 was the rod bearings were too narrow and too thick so there wasn't enough room for a proper layer of oil
so the bearings ran dry and spun. The fix for that in 2002-2003 was new conrods that were a bit wider, the journals on the crank were also widened and the bearing shells were a bit thinner allowing a thicker layer of oil.

So BMW changed the problem from a bearing failure problem into rod bearings wearing out sooner than they should, still a problem but much more manageable.
At least that's how I understand it, I could be completely wrong.

I've seen that video. I'm also a fan of the savagegeese channel in general. They used to shoot their videos about an hour from where I live -- the Z4MC vid is one of them -- but they have since relocated to Chicagoland. I highly recommend taking a look around their youtube channel.

Re rod bearings: I had an oil analysis done on my Z4MC as part of the pre-sale stuff (he actually bought it before the test came back!) and it came back pretty clean for bearing material. I agree with grannyknot that the rod bearing issue in Z4M's and later M3's is more a maintenance item than it was on earlier cars. I would still look at ownership history though; hasty warmups are not good for S54 engines so it's prudent to try and suss out whether the car has had mindful owners.

Thanks for the plug Steeler ! I haven't been on the forum as much (transitioned to learning stuff on the Corvette forum).

I loved the BMW Films ...I think my video outlays my opinions well

That’s a great video! I have The Hire Series on dvd but I didn’t know that there were comic book tie ins too. So I did take a few minutes and found the one featuring the Z4 on eBay which I quickly bought. Thanks for the heads up via the video!

My pleasure

I went on the deep end with my Z4. I have a couple of models (one with the same aftermarket rotiform wheels and a wing). Beyond the comics I recently bought a media kit off ebay from the car's release at the Detroit auto show!

Silly buy because it's packed away somewhere. Unseen and unused. Oh well.
