Engine Mounts: When Proactively Replace

For M owners, when are your engine mounts failing (or about to fail and you caught them in time)? $150 and two hours or so of work seems like a worthwhile project.

I did mine when I was doing the clutch in early 2020. 2007 car with 80K-something miles. The rubber showed a lot of dry cracking especially on the exhaust side. I can't say there was any indication of a problem while driving, and I would not say that they necessarily NEEDED to be replaced. But it is a 15 year old car and it is German rubber, so, yeah. I'm glad I did it.

I experienced a most unfortunate incident when I was in the wet and in first gear and went pedal down which created an unexpected rear wheel hop and it broke one of the engine mounts which created a noticeable vibration; although it was a minor vibration it was evident something was wrong and my tech found it and all is good; this was about 8 yrs ago.

my mounts are needing replacement soon on my E85, I've watched a YouTube video, it's really only expected to be 2 hours of labor? Appeared harder than that

Two different Indies charged me roughly 2 hours worth of labor the last 2 times I had them replaced. So I guessed 2 hours sound about right if you got the "right" tools?

My engine mounts look pretty tired at 91,000 mi. I'm replacing them with 034 Motorsports higher density rubber mounts,https://store.034motorsport.com/bmw/.../s54-3-2l.html
You should probably also replace your transmission mounts as well, all four are generally done at the same time, the transmission mounts can be changed out in 10 min.
