Part 2 of I hate people

It has been a while since I lurked here but still have the coupe and get to drive her once every few weeks and still puts on a smile on my face. So last week I was away for a nice relaxing vacation or at least I thought so. Got back Sunday morning and as I was walking around the driveway witnessed this mess.

Seriously, I HATE SCUMS. They bashed in the driver window to steam a 10 year old V1. What the actual fuck! and of course my deductible is like 500 so doesnt even make sense to go through insurance. Ordered the glass off ebay for 100 and going to tackle the work myself. Anyone have any tips or a good walkthrough video how to change glass?

Feel your pain, someone recently broke into one of my cars and stole my watch (the one day I left it in the car and told myself I'd wear to work next day). Not just my car but a bunch of my cars in our neighborhood were broken into.

Sorry to hear. I know how you feel, I had my car broken into and vandalized a couple times. =( Look on the bright side, at least they didn't take the car.

Makes me thankful to have garage space for all my vehicles. Sucks and I hope the little asshole gets what is coming to him. Karma is a bitch.

This totally sucks and I think we all hope that the A-hole that did this gets a big heaping of karma soon.

In the meantime you may be able to get that window replaced (parts and labor) for less than $500. Pro job and no insurance claim - maybe check around to see.

Sorry to hear/see your damage. Sorry I've never seen a how to on replacement.

BTW Even a 10 yr old V1 is worth some money, so leaving it in your car while parked outside, especially while on vacation, was just too tempting for the scum that stole it.

So sorry to hear. You're right, people suck. Addiction sucks too. I wonder how many fixes that bought. My guess is not many.

I never leave the V1 in the car overnight, actually I never leave any electronics in sight in any of my cars overnight. Sucks that they did this to your car, I hope they did not damage the paint or seats.

I know. I should have been more careful but I have lived here 5 years and never a single issue. the broken glass did scratch up the leather but I am going to hit it up with leather conditioner or mink oil. There's also some scratches and paint chips on the door which i am going to have to touch up and buff out. The whole ordeal is a time suck. Best case scenario will take up a whole day but it is a lesson learned

Been there. I never leave anything in plain sight anymore, not even a very old iPod I use.

On the plus side, now you can get a new V1 with the junk fighter update.

Is it worth it? I have an 11 year old V1 and they will give me $220 off a new one if I trade it in...

UPDATE:

I feel like I have the shittiest luck with this car recently. Last year I had the whole debacle with the windshield and this year with this. So I get the package in the mail via Fedex earlier from eBay seller. It is nicely wrapper and the edges are covered in pool noodles. Impressed....until further inspection when I try to pick up the glass and the whole thing feels like liquid. WTF! take a better look at it and one corner was exposed and looks like FEDEX was rough with the package. Regardless the glass is toast and in a million pieces. Call the seller and he assumes fault and says he will refund (still hasn't) but onto next option, the dealer. Call around and everyone says "oh shit, looks like there is only one of these glasses in the whole country" so I promptly race down to the dealer and purchase for $240. It is supposed to arrive from PA tomorrow. If by any chance it is damaged and/or wrong item, they have to request one from Germany. Lucky me!

I sent mine in to be updated and it quieted down a lot, but it still picks up all of the cars with radar assisted driver aids, just not as many as before. I use it with the blue tooth adapter and an old android phone in my truck and it allows me to set GPS points to specific radar points. In the Z4 I use it without that and anytime it alerts in rural Missouri depending how it alerts I slow down.

Misery loves company. I have a 1983 VW Rabbit GTi that was broken into in the beginning of the summer. Scumbag broke my triangle window, the ones that twist out. Then he destroyed my dashpanel to access the car radio, and in the effort, he broke the HVAC controls and bent the dash opening for the radio which was a super thick piece of steel.
All these parts are 35 years old. In total, he did about $500 in damage to get my stereo, which was $50 brand new.

Cops come, which was a total surprise. They tell me I'm the 8th car to have their stereo stolen within the past day in the area. OK. They then tell me it's likely someone seeking money for drugs.

I'm no detective, but I suggest looking for a 40+ man who's high on drugs. Most 20/30 year old's first cars had decent stereos that were built into the car.

It sucks to have things stolen, but the difficulty of the repair is the real insult!

I'd totally be OK with the whole hand chopping off for stealing law. People look at me lie I am crazy when I say that. I just look at them and say "do you steal stuff?" and when they say no I say "they why are you not for it?". Maybe start with a pinkie then.

Has to be consequences.

If you consider yourself to be a civilized person, hunt up a video of what you propose to see just how unbelievably savage and barbaric it actually is. And what if it was your kid who got caught stealing a candy bar from the local corner store? Still advocating for this now?

LOL - you are talking to someone who could field dress a deer while eating a sandwich. If you think my stomach would turn over some POS thieves getting what they asked for - it won't. I'd actually be OK with thieves being shot, so losing a finger/hand seems tame to me.

Did you find a video of a child having his hand cut off for stealing a candy bar? I actually think we should kill 3 year old kids who steal a sip of your water too since I am sure that is the example I will get next.

Don't steal and it does not matter what the punishment is in my opinion.

alright let's be all civil.

Final update from me, was able to snatch the last glass in US for $240 from the dealer. After transporting it with 30+ layers of bubble wrap to my buddy's house, we started the repair process on Sunday. Taking the door panel off was very straight forward and easy but then had to clean up the inside of the door from all the pieces of glass. NOT FUN! there were literally a million little pieces and the shop vac hose was too big for all the nooks and crannies to fit. 2 hours later, we got most of the pieces off and was able to install the new glass fairly easily. Put the car away at my buddy's garage for the rest of the season hoping for the crackhead to move away from the area when I get the car out again next spring.
