Just curious as I have a spreadsheet going where I'm trying to document how much stuff weighs.... not only interested in any difference, but how much the stock skirt itself weighs. Never hurt anyone to collect/compile accurate data.

Sure if you get the chance. Just whenever it comes up I like to ask, as I don't plan on having mine off anytime soon. maybe I will post what I have and people can add to it.

See if you can get weights on the individual carbon body pieces from TC Kline

lol funny, I was actually just on their website looking at their CF body parts to see if weights were listed. Would of course not be much help without stock pieces weighed in the similar form (ie cf truck or hatch only vs. stock piece with locks, glass, etc is apples to oranges)
Not trying to threadjack this into a weight thread. I'll try and type up what I have thus far. |

I'll weigh one of the stockers for grins. Since I need to do a little adjusting to get the front edge flush on the left Aero one I'll weigh that one too. It might be a few weeks though. But I'll do it in the name of science! "Side skirts Hank, they're all the same!" -- Thaddeus S. VentureSeriously Sonar, will you post up a Google shared version of that workbook when you get it done? That actually sounds pretty cool for us data junky types. |

I will get a version edited and posted this week. It's already a google doc but it's as cluttered as my fucking desk. Links to pics of parts on scales where I have them. Probably in the track/autox section? Or maybe just general.

Chris has tons of stuff he's already weighed (maybe you have that already in your data), and so do others as well. The trouble is the data is scattered all over the place. (At least I'm not aware of a spreadsheet, but heck, Chris probably has one as well and the data merged?) One nice central location--which could be updated and kept clean--would be fantastic. Maybe you can use an existing sticky? The trouble is, most are cluttered and the thread owner who could add the link to the first post has left the building in many cases. In any case, the data would be valuable, and some thought as to where a valuable resource would live seems like a good idea as well. |

I have some of chris's stuff where we have the same parts, since I did a lot before I bothered to weigh stuff...stupid. Working on something now broken down into a sheet per section (exhaust, interior, suspension) with space for stock and aftermarket stuff

Finn-
Looks great. I'm assuming you had them painted without worrying about fading of matching them to the rest of the paint - yes? I bought a set from Tischer, got them all wet sanded to smooth, get rid of the orange peel in the primer, but I haven't committed to getting them painted yet. With the silver grey, I'm worried about matching them - seems like odds are it's not going to go well. Looking for advice here.

I bought mine from a forum member who was parting out his car. He had them about a year I think, and had them painted by his local BMW dealer/shop before putting them on the car. I'd expect our cars have different exposure to sunlight/UV rates, and yet I really can't see any difference in the color or quality compared to the stock pieces or the doors or other body panels. Ship just had his door, fender, bumper, and quarter panel painted and it looks like a perfect match (and he sent those off to be painted as pieces, not on the car). IDK, maybe there's nothing to worry about here; then again mine is black (Sapphire Black Metallic) and Ship's is white. Anyone else a "paint guy" here who can offer some advice? |

I got my skirts done at a local shop. Wasn't happy with the result, so took it to one of the best shops for a re-do. Ended up being a perfect color match. Any shade of grey is a tough color to get right, especially on our cars as there's a lot of shadows in that area because of angles etc. Bottom line, get a good shop to do it.

Things like air pressure...distance from panel when spraying...speed of stroke etc. all manipulate the outcome. Then there is of course the texture of the final clear-coats. Its all interplay and can be tough. |
