Looking for a Shop in the Bay Area

Hey guys, I'm Chris. New here. Glad this resource exists!
I bought my 2004 Z4 last August. Soon after, the top stopped working. Dealer quotes 3K to fix! I have had no luck with the red pull ring "manual mode" although I'd be fine with living with the manual style roof. I've seen a guide to cutting the hydro lines to release the pressure so that the top will open, but not sure I want to go that way.
I know that the focus here is DIY, but I am finding it very difficult to find a shop near me that can help with this issue. Even specialized European shops won't touch it. I did find one willing to look at it but quoted me a probable price that was higher than the dealer!
Anyone know of a shop in the SF Bay Area that can help without costing me a fortune? Any help is much appreciated!

I had very good experience with German Motor Specialist in Mountain View. They are a great indy shop that strictly follows OEM repair procedures with OEM parts. Bavarian Motorsports in Milpitas is good shop as well.

From your previous posts, it appears you're in the east bay. I believe Edge just closed their Dublin location. I would also check with Sacramento area shops as they may be cheaper than Bay Area ones.

Personally, I've used SV Bimmer and Edge in Mountain View and was pretty happy with the results and prices were fair.

Other places I've heard good things about are Performance Technic and Trackspec Autosports, as well as HTL Motorsport

Best bet would be to just call a ton of places and get a quote from all of them.

Thanks Jsingh!

Just got off the phone with Angelo at Edge. Very nice and helpful. After making several calls to other shops around the bay, it was nice to hear that someone was confident that they could fix it! Appointment set! They're in Mountain View and I'm in Dublin, but I'll take it. BTW they are in the process of moving their facility to Fremont by August.
Thanks again!

I recommend VT Motorwerks in Pleasanton. Let them know Robert refer you and they will take care of you. The shop owners are the only techs worked on my car..

Typical top motor rusting story. It's a fairly easy DIY (I did mine twice) but if you're using a shop be sure to ask them to install the new motor in the trunk to avoid future problems.
