Need a Little Help, Throttle Actuator is not getting power from DME
Guys, I am at the finish line with getting this car back on the road and hit a snag.
If you have followed any of my threads, we have dropped a fully built 3.4-liter stroker engine, with CSL airbox into my coupe and have hit a snag at the finish line. Problem: The engine is starting, but we cannot find out what is causing the DME to not send power to the throttle actuator. Error Codes: 2D09 2CFB 2CFA Checked the angle of the throttle bodies and it only shows 90 degrees, which is strange as when we hooked it up to the Z3 M Coupe with an S54, it provides us with a lot more information. The Z4 M DME is different as it is an S54 with an e90 DME, so nothing from the e46 is the same. What we have done so far: 1. Checked all the grounds. 2. Checked and tested all the fuses. 3. Tested all TP Sensors and swapped them out to confirm 1 & 2, there are 3 wires in the TPS 2 which and a lavender wire which is where we can narrow things down too. 4. Double checked and Tested all wiring up to the DME. 5. Sent the DME out to verify there was no damage before purchasing a new one. This is what I am trying to avoid. Anyone who has had any experience with this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

This is WAY above my pay grade....sorry if I missed this, but did you swap the DME with another? If no, perhaps a loaner DME to try??

According to the booklet for my Peake Research code reader:
2D09 = "Throttle Valve" (I've had this due to a bad TPS) 2CFB = "Throttle Valve Adaptation Value" (Have you reset the adaptation?). 2CFA = "Throttle Valve Potentiometer 2" (This is the hard one to get to on the back of the throttle rail, under the air box). My guess would be a wiring problem on TPS #2. Just a guess.

We have the airbox out, but yes we have tried both of the other suggestions. Even replacing them and testing them on another car. Hopefully, these other guys at Kessler can shed some light. Otherwise, I am going to have to just purchase another DME which is going to drive me crazy if that is not the fix. |

WDS says TPS2 is brown, violet, and red/green.
Violet appears to be the wiper, so red/green is the power. Color key here.

I'm more familiar with the Porsche e-throttle. Have you bench tested the throttle body to confirm voltage range?
**There are a lot of warnings out there regarding manually opening and closing the throttle (like lost fingers or motor damage), so test at your own risk.** On my 987.2, one TPS goes from 0-5V, and the other goes from 5-0V. The sum of both always equals 5V. If there's a large error, the ECU will likely go into limp mode, closing the TB to a "high idle" as to not shut down the car completely and lose brake boosting, power steering, etc. If your throttle plate is stuck at 90 degrees (and I'm assuming almost fully closed), then this would equate to the high idle limp mode. FYI, some cars have one sensor with a range of 0-5V and the other is 0-2.5V. You can check the resistance of each TPS with a digital multimeter. The TPS circuit is essentially a voltage divider circuit, so DON'T test the resistance of the source voltage to ground. You want to test the resistance between the output and ground, or the output and source. Ensure the TB is not powered, and then *CAREFULLY* (and this goes back to my disclaimer above) sweep the range of throttle positions by manually moving the throttle plate (I wouldn't recommend using my fingers). The resistance should change with position. If all is correct, then it's likely a wiring issue. Based on StickMon's info above, red/green is the source voltage (powered by the ECU), and the violet is your TPS output back to the ECU. Is the red/green wire showing +5V? One other thing to check is the voltage drop across your wiring, not just the source voltage with the TPS unplugged or continuity of the wires.
