Any feedback on Cup 2’s on track?

How may events will these last before they heat cycle out?

Looking for NT01 grip but something more street friendly (noise, comfort, driveability in wet). On flip side if they heat cycle out quickly I may take the performance trade off for longevity and step down to a sticky street (e.g. Z3 or RS4).

They won’t heat cycle out. They’ll cord LONG before they’ll stop gripping.

Not that they’re durable. Far from it. They’re blazing fast for 3-5 laps, then once the golden laps are done, they’ll grip well as long as you can keep them from overheating. Otherwise they’ll delaminate quick.

But they wear FAST. For treaded compound they’re fantastic, but they’ll last a few weekends and then you’ll find the inside edge corded. They don’t seem to require as much camber to work well like other R-comps though, which is great if you can’t carry a set of tires and don’t want to reset your camber before and after each weekend.

This is based on my ownership experience on the Corvette (they’re OE tires on the Grand Sport), so YMMV.

Hmm, on your vette did u get decent street miles (assuming you don’t get them up to temps on public roads)? It would suck to use them for few weekends and then find out they’re trashed before my next event.

That I can’t say. It’s only got 3,000 miles on it despite it being a year of ownership already. I don’t drive or commute anymore since I work remote full time.

From OTHER Corvette owners feedback and experience, they seem to think if you get 10,000 miles out of a set you should really count your lucky stars. Most are reporting 6,000-8,000 miles range before needing replacement, and most of those guys don’t track, and those that do switched to Toyo R888R for economy reasons, or Hoosier R7s for HPDE championship trophies.

I would say, they’re one of the faster R-comps, but not Hoosier/Hankook/BFG slicks fast. But they wear like uber slicks. Not the best of both worlds, but DO fill a strange niche as they do come in massive, 335 sectional widths on 20” diameter rims.

If you’re not locked in to a specific width or rim size, there are cheaper tires, and there are faster tires. They’re good, and I’ll likely replace mine with Cup 2s once they wear out, but their appeal is limited because I don’t chase lap times when I do go to the track.

Kind of a tweener tire is the best I can describe it. Fantastic if you want to try something a little faster than your typical r-comps like NT01 or R888R, but wears like the grip indicates?

Ugh decisions decisions. Don’t want to sound unappreciative of your insight but I may still take a stab. Seller is offering at nice discount, enough to pique my interest and see how they shake out. If I can get 5000 street miles plus 4-6 weekends I’ll be really happy. But if the wear is that bad I’ll be more judicious about switching to stockers on non-event weeks. No DE championships on my radar but I really want to hit 1 min at Lime Rock lol.

I think the Vette has similar curb weight as the M roadster. What hot pressures did you run on track?

They like a really low hot pressure. I think I got up to 34psi and that's TOO high?

Let me dig up my on-board data.

Yeah, this was on a 100+ºF day. Probably could have dropped tire pressure another 2 lbs. 33-34 hot is about where the sweet spot is, so I start about 27 cold.

Just in case I didn’t say it already, thank you.

Be sure to report back, really curious on your feedback. Post pics of the new wheel and tire setup too

I've now rolled 3 years and 3000 miles on my cup2's.
There's not much wear at all and no uneven wear patterns.
This is from normal driving and no trackdays.
