1200 mile service
Took the car in for the break in service on Friday....Wow! 246.69 euros!($380) I initially thought this car was maintenance free for the first 4 yrs, but this is only in USA. They told me to bring my own oil and it would be less, but I could not find it anywhere. I should have planned ahead, but I thought it was free. Hope I dont need anymore dealer maintenance until I get back to the USA.

His car is US Spec, and is warrantied for the US only. Since the car is in Germany, it's not covered.

I think I paid even more for the oil change (service light ON) for our 3.0si, but I did not have the tax form with me (plus the VISA system was down, so they did not want to give me the car back ). Luckily the warranty works for failed parts... I think (?) ...the wife lost the xenon lights (they blew up) a dark and very cold night down in Grafenwoher. But this was easily solved, the dealer down there ordered a set of new lights (yes, both left and right) and it was all free. I am pretty sure the local Pentagon C S tells you all about how "good" the warranty is and all the years and miles it is valid.... missing out on the country specifics. But then again, you get free floor mats that will last about 5 minutes. |

This was the price with a VAT form. The biggest cost was the oil, over 120 euros just for the oil. Yes, the warranty is worlwide, but the free maintenance is just in the US. Fortunately I will be heading back to the US before the next service. It was alot of $$$, but I gladly paid it for this car.

Wowzers, that is an expensive lesson! I was not aware of that either!

I dont want to abuse the car, but I fully intend to drive it the way it seems to me it should be driven before coming back to the US. I feel sorry for the US and the 60-65 MPH limit. The car seems to drive much smoother when driven harder. Shifting was sometimes jerky at lower rpm's, but smooth as butter when pushed. I didnt notice any notchiness with the 2nd gear as I have read about. Is the sport button really neccessary? I only had a little difficulty not violating the break in limits. Even at 5000 rpm's the car really moves out. It is going to be hard keeping a car like this under the speed limit.

one more thing....I wanted to have the triple flash turn signal set while in for service. I was told by the dealer that the Z4 does not have this option as it has a mechanical contact or something. I searched alot of other threads and have seen alot of controversy/ conflicting reports on whether this can be done. Can anyone with a Z4M confirm?

It's in the Z4FAQ on bimmerfest. It's a key setting.

yes, I read the FAQ and other threads, but it conflicts with what I was told by the dealer. Oh well, I will have to deal with it in a few months when I get the car back.

I paid something like $70 bucks at my dealership to get my oil changed... Where does it say that it's free? |

It's free on the M. You shouldn't need a 1200 mile service on the 3.0.
