Blew by M240i

Had an M240i turn onto road in front of me and he was barely going 80kms/hr. Well as all of u would do i planted my right foot (in 4th gear lol). He did the same and I happily blew by... Surprised at grunt available from that short 4th gear.

If you truly "blew by" him, either he wasn't trying as hard, or sucks at driving.

Agreed. He was in the wrong gear or you think he was racing you but actually wasn't.

He matted the pedal. I just got a jump on him. Horsepower is similar.

Enjoy the win!

Just goes to show that you don’t necessarily need the latest whiz-bang turbocharged electronically controlled mega bells and whistles toy to put a smile on your face.

Horsepower is similar, but torque isn't even close. Did he have see through doors to see that he matted the pedal? Either way, you didn't "blow by" him.

I'm not dissing the M240i; its a fine machined to be sure. But you weren't there and neither was I, so neither of us can dispute what happened.

I'm not stating that he didn't win, all I'm stating is that there is no way he "blew by" him if the other guy was really trying. If they are so similar, how can one "blow by" the other?

Both cars are slow as hell. Buy a quicker car if winning street races matter to you.

Just speculating, but perhaps garz747 just happened to be at the right speed and rpm to get the better of the other fellow. At a different speed, gear and rpm, or a different set of drivers, it may have been a different story to be sure. And if my Fairy Godmother were to drop by tonight and hand me the keys to a new M240i, I don't think I would have any problem with that.

Enjoy your car!!

Only way to settle this is to precisely recreate the scenario. Perhaps someone on this forum with a 240i or our brethren at 2addicts can help

80km/hr roll, Z4M in 4th gear, 240i in (what gear, what transmission/mode??).

Trust me I was there! Its less a torque issue at a run from 80kms/hr. The M pulls great from 3rd and 4th! The overdrive 5th and 6th are different for sure.
