You are really over thinking this. Just pick the one that YOU like. In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't make that much of a difference.

+1

Sometimes, we really REALLY overthink these things.

To me it does so lay off!! All I need to know is if the FE oil is more geared to the newer engines and if I am better off with the regular ll-01 without the FE crap as my car is a 2006.

Kinda ironic that the "oiler27" is asking so many questions about oil, and yes you're overthinking it, like I said, I used non-euro spec oil in a E39 for over 350K miles with no issues, I didn't overthink it....

Dude. Need a hug?

Get the correct viscosity. Get an oil with the BMW certification. Done.

Really? Lay off? XMetal was just trying to ensure you that as long as the oil you choose meets BMW LL-01 Spec and is the correct viscosity dictated by BMW, you'll not harm the engine in your car. Unless you perform some scientific experiments and record the use and environmental data over the oil test period and then use the same oil analysis equipment and lab technician, you'll never know what oil is "best".

There is no best oil. Best oil for what exactly? Driving the engine constantly overloaded? Redline gear changes on cold engine? Constantly short shifted? Street racing? What?

We've all told you just use oil that meets BMW's specs and oil viscosity rating. It's really no harder than that. I have over 500,000 miles experience with two N52 engines. And as I said before, it's more important to use the correct (fitting) oil filter, which is BMW OE MANN HU-816x. My E90's N52, currently at 405,000 miles, had 8 oil change intervals over 17,000 miles each. That's with BMW's LL-01 oil and MANN filters. The engine runs perfectly, and still gets run hard as shit. It's oil consumption has stabilized at 2,500 miles per liter.

So just relax, we're all here trying to help answer your question. And you are over thinking it.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

No need to over think this. LL01 rated synthetic oil will do. My preference is Castrol 5w40.
