**!!! To Those with H+R Coilovers !!!***
Hey Guys, I don't know if this is an isolated issue with just the H+R Coilovers, or if it crosses over to other brands..
I have had my car up on jackstands this weekend playing under its skirt (). Well upon inspection of my H+R Coilovers I installed about a year ago I noticed something was clearly not right. My Passenger side rear lower shock mount had started to work its way through the rubber bushing almost completely falling off!! I am almost positive if I would have driven another few hundred miles I would have lost the shock.. I'll let the pictures do the explaining here.. Please go out and check your shock mounts to make sure no body gets hurt!! I am currently coming up with a washer system to stop this from happening again, which I am really suprised that they didn't originally come with the kit.

Faulty install. The shock should've been turned 180 degrees where it's bolted to the sway bar mount.. Or there should've been a big washer used precisely to prevent what would happen in your photo.

Thought of that too.. but there is no washer on the other side either.. I did not have a washer come with the kit.
It would have to be a special washer anyway. If you would place a washer on there it would stick out a good 1/8" from the actual bushing anyway. I am trying to find some bigger washers that I can cut to size to fit over it, I'll post pictures to explain what I am talking about when I find it.

My Koni Yellows, sourced through GC, have a large "washer" or flange that is attached to the steel sleeve through which the bolt goes to prevent this from happening.
See pic Not faulty install, faulty design....

Given that we have the M3 rear sub assembly I am assuming that I would have to have the correct setup. Can anyone crawl under their car and take a look at one of thier H+R shocks to verify?

this is a picture of my stock rear shock. there seem to be a plate/washer in place to hold it in place. did u forget to put that on or it won't fit with it on? sorry about my noob question. just trying to help out and took this picture while i was adjusting my exhaust today.

yea even my MINI has a 3 sided washer in their that keeps it from waking out.
i think thats whats missing, ive never seen a car with just a bolt holding on the grommet/shock, thats a garanteed failure. |

The stock shock has that plate attached to it, there is not attached washer.
I really wish someone with H+R's would post up a pic of thier lower shock mount to verify... I may just give H+R a call..

so a little research shows that the "washer" you are referring to is actually part of the shock assembly. it cannot be removed and transfered to another shock. See the attached Image.
I have a call into H+R right now and am just waiting to hear back.. I'll post my findings!

ok.. so I guess my case isn't isolated, there have been previous calls into H+R about missing washers. I have a no-charge set being shipping out to me today!
So please take a look at your H+R's and make sure you have these washers, if not call H+R and get them! (they are special washers).
