Picked up this imola coupe little while back. This color spec combo with no navi rarely comes up local, price was surprisingly reasonable too. She’s 99% stock but did just fine at Lime Rock against much higher hp cars.

(Actually unsure if I want to even transfer over my coilovers from the vert because she handled so well)

Greetings 3002tii,
From Racerbruce in Seattle; my new handle on the "3" site is E93Seattle; congrats on your new Z4MC - beautiful; I've always admired Lime Rock with only one LH turn and a ton of RHanders....so great that you "showed the way" against larger HP machines - well done.

Thanks Bruce… and yes I agree, Lime Rock and Summit Point are 2 of my favorite tracks. Here’s another shot of the Z in action

well done 3002 and great pics - thank you;

it must be surreal competing at such an historic and iconic track; a little research shows built in 1956 and is the 3rd oldest continuously operating track in the US.

vivid memories of watching IMSA, LMP, Can-Am and more on tv.

an obvious question - what specialty suspension setups are required, or what if any adjustments are made to tire compounds is important to address 8 RH turns and 1 LH turn??

regards

I’m honestly the last person that should comment. My best time at Lime Rock was modest 1:03 in my n52 coupe but that car was semi-prepped for TT. I think with proper suspension, tires and pads, I could crack 1:02 in the M coupe. Seats and harness are probably good for another 0.5-1.0. To break 1 min, really need Hoosiers and aero imo. Easiest way to shave time is growing a pair and going WOT on the downhill but really hard in stock trim. Without aero, I find myself tapping the brakes more than average advanced driver on the last turn. That last corner is what separates the boys from the men imo.

this is a view into a world many of us will never see....on-track competition and on-track competition against self.

brought up additional track info and found this interesting:

turn 7 "the downhill":

the description online "possible tull-throttle corner for lower acceleration cars. avoid apex curb, but exit curb can be used safely".

can't imagine navigating this turn WOT or also known as WFO....

really wished i would have tracked my beloved 07 z4mr in the 12.5 yrs i had her (rest her soul).

the closest i got to on-track competition was 250 class motocross back when i had hair....unbelievably exhilarating....the insanity of handlebar to handlebar with 30 of us sitting on the tank and staring at the gate at WOT and then shot from a cannon and negotiating downed riders in turn 1....insane.

Not Z4 content but probably one of the best videos showing what it’s like doing hot laps at Lime Rock. E46 M3 is driven by a good friend of mine, who is a very capable driver (former NASA TTC champ). This is instructor run group, his first day learning the track and he’s playing cat and mouse with a GT3

Man drives like he has a death wish which is especially valuable at Lime Rock haha.

had just poured myself a first cup of coffee this morning and turned on the video....there was no need for coffee this morning after watching these hot laps at lime rock; such car control - such quick hands - is there a cutout in the race seat to place the rest of him....it takes huevos to drive at that level - thank you for sharing a glimpse into a world that many of us only dream of.

btw, when my beloved red roadster sold this past late oct on bat, the buyer is in brookfield, ct; unsure if that is near your hood but if so, keep an eye out for an imola red z4mr with black oz ultraleggera rims....

Brookfield… not close but not far. Been there few times because they used to have a large indoor karting facility, but I’ll be on lookout for sure

No, because I had a great time with the car and those memories remain with me. Not the least of which was the rather unique selling experience! Makes me want to find a way to sell you another car.

Yes, because they are stupendously wonderful, undervalued cars. Plus at the moment I have no 'toy' car that is truly fun to drive. The 996 still waits for its engine, and I've got the Caterham apart to fix a bunch of leaks.

It's really great to see the car still being enjoyed the way it was meant to be enjoyed. It's one of the reasons I don't think I could ever own a low mileage 'collectible' car -- I love driving them too much.
