What is this cable behind speaker?

Saw this poking out other day. Almost looks like an antenna but not sure what it would connect to back there. Plus my radio reception is fine.

FYI car is DSP no navi.

After going down a deep rabbit hole on that stupid connecter, I feel pretty confident:

It's not a magic audio cable that will give you a digital feed to your stereo
It's a "Fakra antenna connection" used on other BMW models to connect the 'Snap-in phone cradle' adapters through the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) to an external GSM/Cell antenna.

So I imagine if you want to have the coolest, period-correct Z4 mod, you could add a nokia or original iPhone cradle somewhere ��

Nope, I literally have the wires hanging out into the trunk waiting for round 2 of installation this weekend. (Last weekend was running wires from the front bumper back to the fuse box and then back to the trunk). I snipped that antenna cable free hoping it was a weird digital-coax cable, and your post reminded me to go track it down online first
