Z4 Sport Suspension: 18x9.5 rear wheels with 255-35 tires
I want to go with wider wheels and see no problems with the fronts. From my research it looks like an 18 x 9.5 with the OEM size 255-35 tire in the rear should be close but clear without any rub issues. Anyone running this combination in the rear? What offset do you have? Thanks in advance.

Offset matters greatly. I ran 18x9.5 +22 with 255/35 tires and it rubbed, so I switched to +45 and no rubbing. Just saying that the tire size and wheel width is a tire-to-wheel matching issue, for rubbing you need to worry about the offset of the wheel.

That's odd, I'm running 18x9.5 +22 with 275/35s and I get no rubbing at all. In fact, I have room to go up to 285s if I wanted. See rear wheel in this pic for reference - it only tucks inboard more as the suspension compresses.
OP: you should be fine with that setup.

Thanks for the info all who responded.
The Z4 3.0Si with the sport suspension comes with 18 inch 8.0 et 47 front and 8.5 et 50 rears. The M's run an offset of 30 in the rear. And as Hawkeye pointed out, the non M's have slightly shorter tires. Reach, your info is what I was looking for. Thanks again all for the info. |

apexstrafer, the Ms have a different geometry than the non-Ms. Its not that anything is smaller (paneling is the same) but the positioning is different. Thus, different offsets work for the M than non M. If you go with high offsets like a non-M, you risk rubbing on the inside, instead of the outside. Its important that you take all the factors into consideration and go with what works on your car, not just what someone posts.

Hi, with the 9.5 you can go with an offset on the rear +35mm, but I think that's it without any bodywork.
Have a nice weekend. See you Zuendi

No point in worrying. The wheels won't fit guaranteed.

I'm running 235/40R18's and 265/35R18's on the staggered setup with the same car you have a 3.0 sport suspension and everything is fine. I wanted to go 1 step higher but was told it may not fit. Don't wanna toss away a grand in tires so stayed with 1 size bigger, I do not track my car anyway. Just canyon runs, mountain passes and the occasional late night Flight to the extreme danger zone >100 mph............Classified info. I could tell you but then I gotta kill ya....Stock BMW Rims......forgot the number 294 I think. They are the Vstyle with hardware accents.....
