z4 headliner/under visor rattle

So lately i noticed that when I'm driving on the freeway with my top up I heard a rattle above the visor on my passenger side. It like some loose screw is inside the headliner bezel piece. I also noticed that the mirror door for my visor won't open.

Does anyone have the manual to find where the screws are to remove the headliner/bezel? Also, Has anyone experience this rattle before? And anyone else can't open there mirror on the visor?

It drives me absolutely ape-scat.
I'm pretty sure mines coming from the leather coming loose from the plastic in the piece across the top behind the visors.
The glue's come loose inside, and as the visor pushes against it, it sticks and unsticks.

About a year ago, the leather was coming off the top piece, and my A-pillar covers.
I took it all out, peeled back some of the leather, and re-glued it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you ever do this, peel off ALL the leather and re-glue it.
I now have the first 1" glued down permanently, and can't get further in to glue any more of it.

I have wadded up paper towels stuck on top of the visors to stand them off, and it helps a bit.

The whole business is surprisingly easy to take apart.
There's one screw in each visor mount. Take the 4 screws out, and everything pretty much falls apart.

Your mirror covers are probably stuck shut by years of leather conditioner.
Try dabbing with a wet cloth to dissolve some of it.

My Z4 has same rattle. My wife found right where the rattle was coming from. It turned out to be in the headliner area just above the glass of pass window towards front. You will see an opening into the headliner where it pivots to fold up. In that opening inside is a plastic piece of some sort that rattles. When I stick a plastic knife in there the rattle is gone. Not going to take it apart till after winter so see exactly what it is. Get someone to drive for you and stick something in that hole you will see what I mean.

I don't have the extended leather, but my visors rattle against the top as well. I can fold them down and it stops.......... thinking about putting a few round black rubber "feet" with sticky on one side, like you can buy at Lowes, on the top where the visor rests when up.

Or get a pair of black thin leather gloves and put one up between each visor and the top window frame. And if it ever gets cold, you've got a pair of gloves to wear.

Or use the fabric side of a velcro strip.

If the rattle is coming from under the windscreen panel (part #2) its really easy to take off. Just take out the screws from the visors and it pulls toward you and off. A little glue or tape could stop something from moving around.

Yea. The piece across the top is held on by the visors.
And it, in turn, holds the top of the A-pillar covers.
The bottoms of the A-pillar covers are just jammed in the sides of the dash.

Don't bother trying to take out the dome light assembly.
There's enough slack in the cable to let you ease the top piece off and unplug the connector.
The dome light is much easier to push out from the back-side, and you don't have to worry about messing the leather trying to pry it out.

My dome light assembly used to rattle like crazy. I took it out and apart two years ago and cut felt tape to fit most of the areas where plastic was rubbing plastic......... stopped all the noise.

I wonder if this is a roadster issue, driving top down for so many years and having the interior exposed to the sun?
