Z4M calipers -> M3 E46

Can someone confirm if I can pull the OEM calipers from a Z4M and install them on a E46 M3 (2001 w/ non zcp/csl brakes)?

At the same time I'd be swapping out the rotors to CSL ones on the M3.

Thanks

Yes, same calipers and carriers. Just remember that the rear brake lines are different lengths.

Front calipers are the same. Carriers are the same as the ZCP/CSL (i.e sized for the 345mm rotors). To use non-CSL/ZCP rotors, you need to retain the stock M3 carriers.

Rear calipers and carriers are different (pistons are 46mm instead of 42mm). They will fit the M3, but would move the brake bias significantly rearward (and thus would not be recommended without the front 345mm rotors)

So for the rear brake lines I can reuse the existing M3 lines or transfer the rear lines from the Z4M to the M3 (or neither option)?

thanks

The rear ZCP/CSL E46 M3 calipers also use the same 46mm piston as the Z4M. In short, the Z4M brake system is identical to a ZCP/CSL E46 M3.

I agree, if you're going to use the Z4M front calipers, be sure to pair them with the Z4M/ZCP/CSL rear calipers.

Are the rear carriers / brackets the same between the e46 m3 and z4m?

I have a set of e46 m3 rear brackets for the 996 calipers and I'm wondering if I can throw these onto the rear of the z4m.

Don't forget that his brake master cylinder is 25/20 mm instead of the Z4 M (all M3's after september 2002 as well) that is 25/22 mm. Sure the rear piston size would be bigger with the Z4 M caliper but the brake master cylinder won't push enough brake fluid, can't say how much it would affect the brake bias though.

Carriers are the same but the calipers are not.
