How is your unit working out so far?

Doing great! Solid and nice looking. Have already had several compliments. I think the real test of this PLA build will be the heat of the summer months. But until then, the car won’t get much use over the next several months of cold up here in NNJ

These ali express seller are at it again. Theres a nice 12.3" larger than 10.25. I saw the ads from multiple sellers, they photoshop that unit on the e85, I ask them how it mounts and they finally said "does not work" despite it shows it being e85/86 or listed for e85/86. Just becareful with buying these units.
There was one guy that says it'll install but sent me e89 instructions

I bought Z4Kevo spare PEMP screen and he was awesome including a few of his 3D printed trays. I ended up gluing the 2 piece tray together, used some plastic weld to even out edges, sanded the whole thing a few times and then plasti-dipped it. It came out to my satisfaction. The PEMP unit is truly plug and play, and I use it w Apple CarPlay. Couldn’t be happier considering the factory nav, a huge and welcome upgrade!

Rekla , how did you plug the radio so that you can have image from the original nav screen?

Best regards

Basically, I´ve been going through the available options, and the closest option I get for the Android systems are the ones that come with LVDS to CCC systems.
But CCC has a 10 pin connection, and the connection I have in my car is actually a 18 pin - as below picture.

Is there any chance to get the wires from CCC (10 pin) and map them to my 18 pin socket? Maybe buying a female 18 connector and changing the cable that comes with the Android radio...

Thank you in advance.

This is pretty awesome. It really updates the car. One question. Does the baseplate in the design have to be that bulky at the front and side edges ?? This is not a criticism but more of a design and aesthetics question.

My solution. I found stl file for a 7 inch android head unit console. My buddy 3D printed it. My audio system is a 10 speaker HI-FI, but non DSP. I connected android head units RCA output to CD changer input of original head unit. Works very well for me, the volume can adjust on steering wheel (original head units volume). Future plans: I bought wired, 7 switch steering wheel control from aliexpress, and I will install the non existing cruise control's place on steering column. And I will buy an USB-IBUS adapter, and I will see the car's parameters (with IBUS application).

Do you happen to have the location of that stl file you found? I have a printer and wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

Yes and maybe no.

The unit will only sit down into the dash so far before it interferes with things, so you end up having to transition from the dash to the base of the screen somehow and this was the most elegant way i could find without endlessly designing and redesigning the dash mount into oblivion.

Plus, since we are talking about a 3d part printed in layers you need a bit more material (or different material altogether...Nylon, ABS, TPU) to develop an acceptable amount of strength in the part itself. Unlike injection molded plastics you can't go too thin or it will be incredibly fragile and flimsy.

I made simple tradeoffs, that in the end, could likely be overcome if you had the will and skill to do so...both of which for me were in short supply.

PLA isn't optimal for this purpose. Mine printed from ABS.

I used PETG...and also tested with PLA+. So far it has reacted fine to the elements, but you can see it take on a slightly different shape (relative to the dash curve) as the south TX temps go up and down.
