so does this now allow police to pull their firearms and shoot with deadly force if someone is waving a cell phone at you?

If you can articulate well, you can shoot much/most of the time. I’ve known cell phone guns have existed for years.

are you saying that if you can articulate the "fear the XYZ could have been used as a deadly weapon" you can pull your gun most of the time?

not sure what you meant up top. i know this is massively grey area

I can pull my gun all of the time if I want to. Traffic stops are inherently dangerous; case law has cemented that more times than I can count. I was explaining that the decision to shoot and how it’s viewed all depends on articulation.

I watch way too many videos. And I will never understand WHY anyone in a traffic stop situation would not move slowly and stay calm. Being angry and waving ones arms around doesn't seem like a good idea.

I also LOVE watching the sovereign citizen stops. What the hell does "I'm not driving I'm traveling" even mean?

You need a license to drive, but no license is required to "travel" in their minds.

Also, I believe that the citation for driving without a license is "unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle" in these parts, not even using the term "drive".....

The BEST part of those videos is when the result of their insanity is made clear to them as the cuffs go on and the nice comfy clean seat in the back of the patrol vehicle is offered.

I just want to thank you for all that you do and sincerely hope you don't have to deal with people like this very often:

Secondly - had to share this with you because it's just the best use of a LEO truck I've seen in a long long time

My friends wife goes in for all this Freeman on the land nonsense, she talks a great game but doesn't have the parts to step up to the plate. I told her if she really believes it she should shred her drivers licence and take the plates off her car and see how it goes with the police when she gets pulled over. Just rubbish.

Body cams are the best, we didn't have them when I was on the job but they truly are a fantastic tool for showing the garbage coppers have to deal with, I'd love to be sitting in court when they play this.

How much alcohol does it take for a person to treat a room full of LEO’s that terribly? I didn’t know people like this existed - is she a crackhead or like a normal lady when sober? I’m gonna go with crackhead prostitute - is my best guess.

The number of videos on the internet that reveal the shocking lack of knowledge and understanding of the law and the constitutional protections is mind boggling.

Okay, so having said all that, how is the public supposed to feel about the average LEO when these are the people who represent you and attitudes like this appear to be the norm, not the exception? I truly am interested in what you might have to say that could change my perception. I’ll also say I come from a family with a lot of police officers and firefighters.

This incident prompted me to post because I am an Army veteran and this is UTTERLY DISGUSTING!!!! Not only is the officers’ behavior disgusting, the internal affairs findings are disgusting. Thank goodness the Dallas PD has a civilian oversight board.

So considering you come from a family of “police officers and firefighters”, do the actions of the few whom are sensationalized in the media taint your opinions of the police officers you know personally? To paint with such a broad brush would be the equivalent of me using a small group of military personnel whose actions are unbecoming to label all military personnel. Police across the country interact with the public tens of thousands of times a day. The situation(s) you are referring to are a very small percentage of those encounters. There are even statistics out there to support my statement.

If Murf and I were to ALTERNATE between taking sips of rum for each "GTFOM-Bitch" we still wouldn't be quite that drunk.

I was involved in an investigation of a police involved shooting and while preparing for court we brought in an expert witness. Her area of study is LEO use of force. So this was in Canada which is about 1/10 the population of the US but the data would translate across the border statistically for the most part. In Canada the police interact with the public about 20 million times every year. Close to a million arrests every year with almost 2 million charges laid. Force us used in approximately .08% of police interactions, and use of force is a broad description from grounding/control, hard impact weapons, soft strikes, handcuffing, OC spray, CEW, up to and including deadly force which on average is 29 per year in Canada over the last 25 years. Deadly force is used in approximately .00000125% of the police interactions in Canada annually.

Great stuff! Statistics immediately flatline the suggestion that force is used way too often.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the fact we lost another one today. One of our Palmdale Deputies was ambushed in his patrol car. He succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head. It has been a rough 10 days.
