RacingBrake BBK + Extras

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
I'm letting go of the BBK that has been on my car since last summer. Going to strip and cage the car over the winter to do some TT and possibly some racing next year, so I have moved to the ZCP setup with PFC rotors and hats. Please see below for details on this kit that I'm selling.

https://www.racingbrake.com/Big-Brak...kg-p/2209k.htm

https://www.racingbrake.com/Brake-Ki...AR-p/2512k.htm

About this kit

I first came across RB on this forum while looking at comparisons between PFC, StopTech etc. It seemed like a couple members had a great experience running these, and cost of consumables (rotors, pads) was relatively low compared to competition. I decided to jump on them, especially given the attractive price point.

I track the ever-loving **** out of my car, and had a great season with these brakes overall. They bite hard, provide predictable and consistent pedal feel and, along with brake ducting, I was out-braking anything else out on the track.

There were some hiccups with the front caliper pistons getting seized from time to time, so I had them sent back to RB and they sent me a replacement.

So fronts are rebuilt and have 2 track days on them.
Rears are in great condition as far as I can tell.
Rotors are new so they have 90% life remaining - Only track days on these too.
Pads are new all around, so same life remaining.

I've sold a ton of stuff on this forum and I hope other members can jump in and attest to my reputation. I usually don't bother 'prettying' up the items for pics because I hope you're going to use these like I did and beat on them. That being said, I'm sure these could use some love before being mounted on another car.

Extras

1 set of street pads that I have barely used.

1 brand new, unopened, set of track pads that is additional to the newish pads already on the calipers right now.

1 set of 'emergency' pads that I purchased just in case. These are EBC yellow. Never been used.

1 brand new, unopened, set of front SS lines from RB.

Pictures

Please follow this Google Drive link for pics.

Asking Price

I'm asking $2800 for everything and can split shipping costs if you pay my asking price. I also get a UPS discount through work so it should be beneficial for the buyer.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thanks!

This seems to be an excellent deal. I’d jump all over it if I were in the market for a BBK. If you are - these are top notch!

Don't forget these will fit E46 M3s too. If you don't have any luck selling them here, try M3Forums.net for more eyes and better action.

As per the website -

Caliper pistons are 40mm and 44mm diameter (two of each). Pistons are made of stainless steel instead of aluminum commonly used by other caliper mfgrs which can substantially reduce the heat transfer (approx 1/10 of aluminum) from the pad to brake fluid. Pistons are vented to further reduce the heat contact area and improve air circulation thereby reducing more heat transfer.

mmm.. tempting. I run 135i rears with z4m rotors. Was looking to upgrade my fronts (I'm on a 3.0si). No chance you'll split these? Quite frankly, I would just need the front rotors and calipers, no pads, etc.

Happy to split if I have a taker for the rears...or else, as you know, it's a little pointless for me. I'll def let you know if something comes up!

I would be interested in the rears if you can provide the piston sizes for those

I also need to see if PFC makes pads for this caliper (the fronts at least). Also can't find any info on the piston sizes. My single piston front caliper is 57mm. Are the front RB pistons 40mm each?

I've posted the front piston sizes in post #9. For the rears, I can't find any info on their website. I can email them to ask for details....do you have any other questions I can pass on to them tikamak and dre99gsx ?

Also, for pads you want to look for FMSI 1149 and 647 for front and rear respectively. When I was searching, I didn't come across many manufacturers BUT I did use the RB track compound and they were incredible.

While we're on the topic,

Front rotors are 360x32 and weigh 18lbs vs 23.5 for OEM
Rear rotors are 330x22 and weigh 12.7lbs vs 17 for OEM

Thanks!

BTW... I weighed the 345x28 z4m rotor at 19.1lb and the rear z4m rotor 328x20 at 14.8 lb.

I've never weighed either, jus got the info from the RB website. Maybe they are including calipers?

Hmm.. rear calipers weight ~6.6lb, front calipers slightly heavier (I never weighed mine), 335i front calipers with pads 13.4lb. Neither of these numbers would add up to their numbers. It doesn't really matter, just thought I would include them for reference

The fronts will need spacers. Takes an 8mm spacer to fit, and it's super tight (like a few mm at the back of the spokes). If you run a squared setup, the rears will fit up front without spacers, but you'll need some significant camber to clear the fenders. I've gotten the tires to clear the fenders at -2.5º up front using the rear wheels.

so the issue is not about the diameter being an issue but rather the calipers being thick as an issue. thanks

I have a staggered Apex Arc 8 setup that you can have for cheap if you buy these brakes. I use them as my 'practice' set but have been itching to get a squared setup for that too. Let me know.

It’s hard to explain. The calipers themselves are not wider than OE sliding calipers, but the OE calipers “taper” towards the hub, giving significant clearance to the spokes, while the fixed caliper requires more room towards the base of the spokes, because, we’ll...piston on BOTH sides.
