Emergency brake/brake cable broken..

My emergency brake in my 2007 Z4 Coupe has been out/cable broken I believe, for quite sometime now. I haven't been able to use it in a while, and I was curious if this was common for this car? The light has been on, on the dash, indicating that it's out, and I'm just now getting the chance to replace it. I tried searching it for information on how to do it , but didn't find much on the subject. Has anyone had any experience replacing the emergency brake/emergency brake cable? I'm hoping to knock it out sometime this weekend, and I'll add pictures when I'm done if someone needs them for future reference. Thanks in advance!

Crestwood Illinois?
Haven't heard of one breaking in this forum.
I've had them seize on other vehicles due to corrosion from road salt when I lived in Illinois.
Never actually used them there. Got out of the habit after having the brakes freeze.

I have replaced before, u need to drop exhaust and drive shaft in order to remove the actual hand brake assembly as it is bolted from underneath

Was this a DIY? Or how much did you pay for labor?
