PHOTO UPDATE!

After a very long time not adding photos, finally got a few. Here they are: https://photos.app.goo.gl/B2zFjeRjRcnSVc6N8

PRICE UPDATE:

Price dropped to $1,800 OBO.

BRAND SPANKING NEW UPDATE:

Price updated to $2,000 for every part I have, but you are also welcome to pick through the parts and take F/R, individual parts... I just want these brakes out of my car, my home, my life.

Cue that best salesman award.

Finished a 2-day DE at NJMP and the brakes felt great, I inspected them afterwards, there was minimal deposits and the pads were worn evenly and well away from the minimum. All in all, I felt great. I told myself before the event, even one small problem after all the shenanigans and I was done with them. Went to replace the track pads (oh, I have more extra track pads too, I'll update the inventory) after replacing the left rear just fine and feeling a wave of relief, one of the front left (inside top) piston was sticky. When I tried to spread the pistons, I smelled and noticed brake fluid leaking out. So I'm out. I hope these parts find their way to a) someone that just wants cool red big brakes that do seem to work better than original for street use, b) someone that has had more luck with RB and is more mechanically inclined than I that wants some spare parts, or c) that South Carolina Powerball winner that wants to dig me out of this mess.

I don't believe I posted any photos, but I will try to get photos of the brakes on all four corners today, and when they're removed I'll post more photos.

UPDATE: Price reduced to 3,300.

Disclaimer: I really don't have a good history with these brakes. I'm not selling them to try something different, I'm not selling them because I need more stopping power, I'm selling them because they don't work well for me. Be that through driver error or quality of parts, I cannot tell, but after my last two HPDE events (two day and three day) I have had a fair amount of issues (listed at bottom, all mostly resolved by RB and my shop).

I know, salesman of the year award. But really, I just want to be very clear in why I'm selling these. From everything I read on this forum, these brakes should be fantastic. I'm listing this kit for anyone that wants to try RacingBrake at a reduced cost (with extra parts) or for someone looking for a set of spares to bring to the track.

To RacingBrakes credit, they have been wildly supportive in getting me parts at reduced cost or free for replacement, but at this point I've lost confidence in the brakes for track events. I wouldn't even suggest that they be used on track, but far wiser people than myself have claimed they're amazing on track. So I really don't know.

To the kits credit, when they worked they were fantastic. No fade, lots of bite.

And now for the listing!

For sale is a 4-pot front, 2-pot rear RacingBrake BBK sold with hardware for the Z4M.

Specs for the kit are:

- 348x32 front rings, slotted, 4 piston calipers (red)
- 330x22 rear rings, slotted, 2 piston calipers (red)

Updated: Parts available

- all four hats
- all four calipers
- 1 (front left) has one sticky, leaky piston, was rebuilt before last track event, some cosmetic scratches
- 2 rebuilt before last track event, haven't tried to change pads, don't know the condition of the pistons
- 1 brand new (right rear) before my last track event
- four used rotors
- fronts should be reasonably good, some heat marks/deposits
- one of the rears has spiderweb (presumably surface) crazing
- four close to brand new replacement rotors
- installed, maybe 500 street miles and 8 HPDE 20-min sessions, installed on car before most recent track event
- SS lines that came with the kit
- whatever hardware is used to attach them (basically whatever came in the kit)
- Current street pads (most of the meat there, XT910)
- Mostly new front XR-70 track pads
- Brand new rear XR-70 track pads
- Brand new front XT-970 track pads
- Brand new rear XT-910 track pads

I'll even throw in the original right rear that was replaced because the threads to hold the banjo bolt stripped.

My last track day I was advised I should ditch them and go with Stoptech ST40s, [S]which is the plan[/S] which are currently ordered and soon to be delivered. All the parts should be available as soon as I get the new kit delivered and installed.

Pictures coming tonight, I do not have thickness measurements of the current rotors outside of telling you that they were brand new as of April 2017 and had minimal street miles and 2.5 track days. I can likely measure for you if need be.

Issues:

I ruined a rotor and damaged another (my fault) by running pads down to the backing in April. I ordered new rings all around, rebuild kits, and all was well. Also, my rear pistons were getting sticky, but not to an unusable point. This one was mostly my fault.

In October, I ran Watkins Glen for a 3 day weekend. My rear pistons were sticky and the rotors seemed to look really bad all around, I was running their most aggressive track pad. I was given replacement rotors all around, as well as a new rear right caliper.

Most recent:
Came back from a 2-day HPDE at NJMP and one of the front pistons was sticky and appears to be leaking. I'm out.

So yeah, I really have no idea if anyone would be interested in taking these off my hands, but to summarize, I'm selling all the original parts (rebuilt where/when needed) (~$4000), spare rings all around (~$1000), current street pads (can't have more than 1k miles of normal use, $180 new), and track pads (new, ~$400, only the fronts are worn a bit).

Would you please tell us the piston sizes in front and rear calipers?

Would you be willing to sell front and rear separately ?

I would be interested in the rears if so.

I can measure the original pistons, but I'm not sure RB offers different sizes? Don't know for sure, but the product page doesn't even list the current size of the piston.

Also, sorry no pictures yet, last night was busy. Will take today at some point.

I'm very hesitant to sell separately, but PM me with an offer and we can go from there I suppose.

What do you mean 'sticky' calipers? Did the pistons seize up?

I have the same brake kit, and a very similar experience FYI. Front pistons are completely seized up and they won't retract to accept any pads. RB has agreed to replace them with a set that they claim was used for fitment purposes. I think that's fair, but I hope this will resolve the issue.

To your point, and for any potential buyers....these work really great when they do. Would recommend these for somebody who doesn't do more than a dozen days per season. GLWS!

The rear 2 piston is no longer supported and racingbrake is now shipping 4 piston front and rear at this point.

I have no way in finding out how much it used to cost in order to make an offer.
If you could make an offer instead, it would be more appropriate.

Both products that I ordered are listed as no longer available, although they definitely stock parts for them. I figured they just re-itemed the parts, as a search (http://www.racingbrake.com/SearchRes...nsive_Search=Y) for the parts yields the following 2-pot rear that is still listed for sale:

http://www.racingbrake.com/Brake-Kit...AR-p/2512k.htm

I originally paid $1500 for the rears and $2500 for the fronts. Pretty much in line with what they're listed for today (although I genuinely do not know if the kits are different in any way).

EDIT: I didn't actually catch until just now that they also have 4-pot rears for the same price, although I recall when buying that they were adamant the 4-front and 2-rears was more in line with the current braking balance. I don't think they even offered a 4-pot rear at the time, although other manufacturers did.

So what are you asking for the rears? I am only interested in the rears as i have the stoptech trophy fronts.

EDIT: I am also open for rear calipers only if someone doesn't want the 2 pistons and would rather get the 4 pistons on your kit.

If anyone is interested in just the fronts, I'd be OK splitting the sale. Going from the original $1500/$2500, it'd be $1,350/$2,250. I would prefer to line up both at the same time, however.

Also, darn, another day and I didn't get pictures. I'm terrible at selling apparently.

So I may have mentioned that I'm terrible at selling. For anyone that may have been interested, here's an imgur album with photos all around.

I think the price is a little on the high side.
If you would reduce your asking price, i bet you will get more offers.

Perfectly fair. Let's try down to $3,300. Noobish question but do you know how to adjust the price in the listing?

Bump! Had one more small problem and I'm tapping out on these brakes. I want them gone. Lowered price to $2,000 OBO for whole kit and caboodle, or rummage through the parts I have and we'll make a deal.

What type of problem did you encounter with the brakes?

FYI, if my memory serves me right, I think Racing Brakes (RB) used to be called Phatboy (PB). They had changed the name after people on an e89 forum poked fun at their name. I think PB is a Taiwan based company manufacturing brakes in China. Their bbks do look attractive on paper tho.

*Disclaimers, I could be wrong.

Believe I listed them but mostly seized or sticky pistons after track events.

Can't really speak to that, but I will say outside of the issues that I've encountered they've worked very well on track. At a minimum, their HQ is in CA.

I mentioned in the post, their customer support has been by and large fantastic, even if I'm not really feeling the quality of the brakes.

I don't want to mislead at all, I just haven't had luck with these. And I'm not mechanically knowledgeable yet to handle these problems as they occur, I'm getting tired of bringing them to the shop every time I need to change pads or have a caliper rebuilt.
