There are a few roads connected to it that are quite a lot of fun, and don't come with the same traffic levels and speed restrictions. As nice as the Parkway is, I rather like those more.

Well kids, I have an update...
SOLD! The seller countered my offer but only came up from my number very slightly, and I immediately accepted. Will fly out to consummate the deal then have it trucked home to Arizona. Here she is...

Wow. That’s amazing luck. I would think it would take 3-6 months to find the right unicorn.
Time to go pick up a Megamillions ticket, ‘cause man, Lady Luck is smiling upon you.

Nice car OP! Congrats and enjoy in good health.
Btw, forgot to ask what your thought of the E39M5. I've driven one and liked it well enough, but I'd personally rather have the E60 M5 or E90 M3 over it.

I wasn't aware (before I ran the VIN at z4mcoupebuyersguide.com) that there were only 48 Space Gray examples produced for NA. So on top of it being a spectacular color on this car IMHO, it's super rare. While I'm generally dismayed at how so much of what's on the road today is black, white, silver, or some shade of gray, I'm more than OK with it on this car as it just works. And it should be relatively easy to maintain.
The seller has graciously agreed to have Inspection 1 performed before I fly out. I'll cover the cost on top of the sell price. I'll be wiring him a deposit today that will more than cover his out-of-pocket expense to get it done. Really helps me as I'm 80 miles from the nearest dealership and there isn't even an indy guy in my nearest town. Tentative date to fly out and conclude the deal is 11/4, so it's gonna be a while before I have her home. There's an outside chance that I'll get a wild hair and decide to drive her all the way back, but it's over 2000 miles and a solid 3-day adventure, and November probably isn't the best time of year to attempt it. Decisions, decisions.

It feels more like a 2 door saloon than a coupe to sit in (which I guess it is really) and the quality of the 'leather' is laughable and half of it isn't leather anyway. The engine is just a pretty ordinary turbo lump with a noisy exhaust to try and make it sound exotic, and it really is pretty similar to a Z4M in performance except for the low to mid range torque. But more than anything I cannot stand the ridiculously droney exhaust, I find it horrendous and would much rather do a longer journey in the Z4 than the M2. Oh and congrats Kevin C, that looks a beauty. |

The interior is black, non-nav, carbon leather trim. Perfection. The only possible improvements would be extended leather, or Imola leather with same trim. But the BIG requirements for me are carbon leather and non-nav. I'm lucky that this car checks both boxes. I would reject any car with nav, and the aluminum trim doesn't appeal to me at all, though that could be swapped out. I had a long conversation with the current owner last night. The car only has 2 flaws - some very light scratches on one corner of the rear bumper, where it appears perhaps a garbage can grazed it. And one wheel has one minor curb rash spot. That's it. The bumper is undrilled, even the fangs are unmolested. I can't wait to get this baby onto my driveway and into my cold, sweaty hands! I'm having Inspection 1 performed before it leaves the current owner. The VANOS & cam bolts will be inspected and dealt with as necessary. Will be ready ro rock when it reaches Arizona.

My E39 M5 was the best sedan I ever drove. I never tracked it but took it on the occasional spirited drive. It's not going to give you the same effect of an E90 M3 because it always behaves like a mature car with capabilities only a fraction of cars can reach. I loved the size, I loved the simplicity, and I loved its exclusivity. Unfortunately, I sold it to pay off student loans which was the right move at the time. Now I'm looking to jump into an Z4M. But the E39 remains as the car I'd consider to be a weight lifter in a tuxedo. Powerful and subtle and stealth. |

Thanks brother Kev! I now live south of you in Cochise county, between Bisbee & Sierra Vista. We should hook up sometime, I'd love to see your cars and show off my "new" Z4MC. I'm hanging onto this one.

...but I sold it in 2012 to buy my 2006 Z4 M Roadster in Interlagos Blue. The S2000 was a fun car, but the Z4 M has some actual torque and horsepower, and sounds a ton better! No plans to sell the Z4 M!

Whirlwind trip to Philly over the weekend to see & drive the car and close the deal. Flew in with cashier's check in hand, met the owner at his home on Sunday. Had a nice long drive & chat, went through the car's fully documented history, back to the 1200-mile service. Super-nice owner, hardcore enthusiast, also owns a Lime Rock Edition '13 M3 and is buying a GT3. Really hated to part with the Z4MC but it was the odd man out. I promised him that if I should ever decide to sell, I'll offer it back to him first, a gesture he greatly appreciated. This car is ultra-clean and was even more impressive in person than I expected, and the bar was pretty high. 34k miles of pampered existence.
EAG is handling the logistics and the car could get picked up as soon as Friday, if not next week, so she'll be home in Arizona sooner than later. Can't wait!
