OT: For those of you who cringe at driving your car in the rain (Photos).....

I was walking in the 8th arrondissement in Paris and stumbled across the following scene which I believe is somewhat akin to taking Don Larsen's perfect game baseball from Cooperstown and playing a pick-up game with it in a sandlot.

....Mercedes SLR McLaren errantly parked curbside (note rash on rim) and with debris (dirt, leaves, bird crap all over it)

...Makes taking our cars through an automatic brush wash seem like sound logic.

There are atleast 4 versions: Regular, Ragtop, 722, Sterling Moss Roadster.

To some it might just be their "in town" car, so curb parking and rash is ok.

Maybe they blew their savings on it and that's the only car that they were able to afford.

I could live with curb rash and a little bird dump if I had to, for the price of ownership.

It was built to be driven. If you cant afford to replace the road rash rims, you cant affford the car.

The French are a strange lot. Parisians are among the rudest Europeans. Vacationing in the French countryside is much more enjoyable, though of course you have to go to Paris to see the museums and the architecture. But the people are pretty worthless. Whatever a Parisian would do with an automobile would be no surprise to me.

I've always found Parisians to be quite pleasant if you try as hard as you can to speak some French. After you have at least managed to try your best, many will often then strike up a conversation in English. I've always found them friendly with the right approach.

I completely agree, Start with bad french and they will give you credit for trying. I've found Parisains perfectly friendly if you dont expect them to speak your language first. Thats a rude American trait, Were the only people in the world that only learn one language and expect the rest of the world to know there own, and english too.

Living in south florida, I regularly have people just start speaking to me in Spanish as if its completely normal and I am supposed to understand what they are saying. Americans are not the only ones who do that.

I think attitude plays into it a lot. If an american in paris just starts speaking away in english expecting the parisian to know it then I can see why that would be obnoxious. But if they ask first if the person knows english then I dont see anything wrong with making no attempt to speak french.
