O-ring installation, lubrication....

BMW colleagues -
Preparing to install the aftermarket aluminum chargepipe which mates to the throttle body and the chargepipe is engineered to receive a specific o-ring.

Began searching this subject re how to install the o-ring to prevent damage, if and what type of o-ring assembly lubricant, etc.

Found this website that is a a quick read and provides excellent direction re preventing o-ring damage during installation, etc.

Please take a look and offer your experience and recommendation(s) re what type of lubricant to use on the o-ring prior to installation.

The website refers to ester based lubricants and petroleum distillate lubricants as well.

If you have a recommendation, please post (and hopefully a weblink) for a small tube of lubricant for my application.

Thank you and regards -

Thank you cbpip,
I tried Burger Motorsport and Turner Motorsport and neither could provide me with this o-ring's specific composition of material (as noted in your o-ring app guide).

DOES ANYONE HAVE ACCESS TO THE TYPE (VITON, NEOPRENE, NITRON ETC) OF OEM O-RING NOTED IN MY WEBLINK NOTED ABOVE? - THANK YOU

I'm trying to ensure the OEM chargepipe o-ring is compatible with the assembly lube I purchase.

Every time i have rubber o-ring I use silicone spray. It’ll make installation easy it’s safe for rubber and than evaporates. Any petroleum based lubricant will damage o-ring.

As a general rule of thumb I use whatever fluid is in the actual part (engine oil, gear box oil, rear axle oil), if not I preferably use silicone based products. Can't confirm it but an old trick I heard of many years ago is using ATF (Automatic transmission fluid) as it doesn't denature rubber.

The Krytox GPL205 lube I used on my origami top seals is an O-ring lubricant. Check the specs against your needs.

thanks wdb -
as my post states, i cannot id this o-ring's type (viton, nitrile, etc).

many of the posts include links to sites where o-ring assembly lube is paired with specific types of o-rings (viton, nitrile, etc) - hence my pursuit to hopefully id the bmw oem o-ring type in the link i posted.

turner motorsport, burger motorsport, etc cannot provide me with the info i am pursuing.
