Yeah when one driver was already far ahead in wdc and facing a formidable challenge from a rival team. Not when they werent even a third of the season through and separated by less than one race victory worth of points

Very interesting race, Charles DNF'ed - I wonder if the engine is new or an old one. Good job to max for winning, I wonder what's up with turn 4 causing issues for him and sainz, pretty good drive from Hamilton coming from last to 5th - if he had fuel he would've beaten Sainz, idek what to say about Carlos, really good job to George he held off max for a long time in a much slower car even when max had his drs back. Overall decent race.

Just finished watching it and well..waiting on to see for sure what Lec's problem was for sure but it seems turbo failure tho' don't you get smoke pouring out the exhaust when that happens.
Wolf was saying HAM could have won that but as we know tots can sometimes go overboard with his comments, must still be feeling queasy from the 'Mikey/earphone throw' rant time

That's not how they reason in the money-driven F1 business anno 2022. It's about the reality of winning titles. The 'equal opportunities for both drivers' approach is definitely honorable, but that only works if all competitive teams adopt that very approach. Otherwise, chances to win titles will be compromised by other teams who radically adopt a 'leader + sherpa' strategy, concentrating points in one basket: the one of the designated 'leader'.

Seriously, imagine for a moment that you're the team boss or leading driver at Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari: more than ever since the highly controversial 2021 F1 season with toxic atmosphere, you want by all means to avoid the championship to be decided yet again in the last race. As repeatedly proved in the past: every point matters. So better start collecting as many points as possible since race 1 in order to achieve the goal to get mathematically out of reach of rivals prior to the last race. Once the title is in the bag, the 'sherpa' will be granted to win too.

Sherpa for Red Bull: Perez - he knows that very well;
Sherpa for Mercedes: initially Russell, but based on results that's very likely shifting towards Hamilton now;
Sherpa for Ferrari: initially there was none (at least that's what Ferrari officially used to say), but based on results and given the fact that Red Bull sacrifices Perez to get Verstappen maximum points, the sherpa role is shifting towards Sainz.

Merc should be kicking themselves for not having a decent car to start the season. With Redbull's and Ferrari's reliability woes, if Merc started with a good car they'd be sitting pretty in the championship.

There are studies on f1 technical that show all the teams have flexible front wing elements, that do deform underload. The mercedes just has a bit more movement on the inboard element where the camera is pointed which is why it is more noticable imo.

It has to be the same new (Miami-Upgraded) Ferrari PU today at Barcelona .
Otherwise it would have been his 'third PU in 6 races .

OC . MAX got his gremlims as well . But It's still his first HONDA PU .

IMHO. It's actually very bad news for Ferrari with Charlie's TURBO explosion ..
Think Ferrari pushed it over the limits and Mercedes as well with overheating issues .
The Russel boy didn't got a water leak like HAM . RUS got several overheating warnings on his steering wheel .

Win some, lose some. You can't always win/be on top. Silver lining for Mercedes that they will get more wind tunnel time and CFD time than Red Bull and Ferrari assuming the order remains the same which is going to be critical if the porpoising is indeed fixed - Mercedes will have a slight advantage with aero tweaking.

well he did do quite a bit of overtaking apart from dnf/pit stops/team orders. Also managed to deal with those pesky gusts of wind without taking an offroad trip down the gravel

As you know the topspeed advantage is huge with such an extreme flexing front wing .

If that is OK for the FIA . It won't take long before we can see it on the RB-18 and the Ferraris as well ...

There isn't a huge top speed advantage with this, it drops some drag but not all of it...

It already is on the RB18 and F1-75...
