Active Autowerke Z4M tune group buy interest thread.
As you guys know Actives releasing a flash tune for our cars very shortly. It is going to be priced VERY modestly at $499. If we can get some people together we could potentially get a lower price for the tune.
I've mentioned before that dynos are not the measure of a tune and really it boils down to what company you are comfortable with and has a proven track record of putting out good products, which active has been doing for a very long time. However, I will have some from my car shortly and another member of the forum will as well. If you are interested post up with your city and state as well. This is because it will only be open to members who don't have a local authorized retailer capable of flashing.

I am however interested in how it performs vs. ESS and the like and not as price sensitive if performance is on the line. Thanks.

If the AA gang are interested I wouldn't be apposed to doing a Active vs ESS vs Stock test back to back to back on our dyno. If it meant getting rid of the CEL I've had with the ESS tune since day 1 and other issues I'd gladly be down to pay for the tune.

Quick question, I haven't found any reviews for the AA ECU Tune... Will it erase the CEL due to aftermarket headers?

A SES for rear o2s that they blame on the fact I use SS and not Euro Headers (even though the rear o2s are supposed to be turned off). O-Cha has seen the car, we've both ran diagnostics on it and found everything to be straight.

This is a first that I've heard something bad from ESS aside from their steep prices. Quote:
I'm currently the only one with the AA software I believe. Will be doing an "after" dyno this coming Tuesday and will probably start a new thread on it if the #'s are decent. Thus far I've felt smoother operation throughout the rev range, especially noticeable from cold starts. And of course slightly stronger low and mid-range power delivery. I'm afraid to call it more than it is all from the butt dyno, so I will reserve final judgment for when I get #'s put down. JSW is offering me full money-back guarantee, so I can always revert back to stock. I've only got mufflers though, so there may not be much of a power increase over stock on paper |

Can't wait for a comparison of the two tuners. Shipping your ECU is a time-consuming pain to revert to stock. But thanks for being the guinea pig mfanatic; all in the interest of squeezing a bit more power out of our rides!

For me, it made more sense. JSW is a vendor for AA and they're local to me. I've dealt with them many times ever since they were just a tiny start-up working from a garage at home They offered me a decent deal after it was all said and done. Not to mention the full money-back guarantee if there weren't any gains to be had on paper. And the fact that I know AA has been around for a while and are known to provide quality performance applications definitely put me at ease. There's about 14 hours left before I head out for Laguna Seca track day =] Can't wait to try out the ECU on track. I wonder if it's smart enough to detect higher octanes? lol might try 100 octane just for shits and giggles. I pumped 100 on the track for the MR2, cuz it had a ROM-tuned ECU (with a daughterboard and chip soldered into the OE box) to take advantage of race fuel. I was able to outrun a GTR before lol but it was a pair of older gentleman, who seemed to be taking it easy; just be having some fun =P |
