im new here
Im in belfast Ireland ,and looking to buy an early z4.Iv heard the 3 litre is the one to go for?any tips on buying welcome.Prefer the red leather, or cream interior.Iv had a wide body z3 6 cylinder which i enjoyed but agree with many the handling was a bit ropey.Im hearing the z4 handles very good, and the gear shift is good.Since 2011 iv had 3 mx5 mark ones, great cars, always went for special edition ones. The mark two onwards i didnt like.Hopefully soon i will be an owner of a z4, and see what all the compliments on it are about.

I agree, the 3.0 is the better model assuming you're not gunning for the Z4M. I drove my co-workers 3.0 the other day and the power difference is noticeable all over the power band.
I'm always winding up my 2.5 for the obvious reasons. If you're only looking for improved handling then the Z42.5 is fine. I had a few Mx5 as well NA/NB model pumped up with FM catalog and those were the days. |

I don't know what the market is like over there but if there is a large difference in price between the 2.5 and the 3.0 I would at least test drive the 2.5, it's still good power and would be fun to rev out all the time like a miata. Keep in mind the non-M Z4s have electric steering which you may or may not like after your Z3. Personally I like it. The only thing I would consider replacing my Z4 with is an 987 Boxster S, but it's twice the price over here so I can't justify it. I think these cars are incredible value for money at the moment.
