The garage turned out wonderful OP, I love all the colors and the design of it. There's some very nice garages posted on this thread, which always seem to be my favorite topic to read up on.

The previous owner of my house was a retired marine and built the garage himself. Funnily enough, he built a 4 bay garage but wasn't even in to cars. He used it as a wood working shop.

It's getting pretty cluttered and it doesn't have power (it's just a standalone building), but I'm glad I can fit all my cars in there. X2 company car is gone and replaced by a 2016 Toyota Tundra:

And my 2 boys:

Not to turn this into a garage measuring thread but since we've discussed it:

I have an Eley hose reel. I can't say I'm in love with it. It doesn't turn easily and is essentially overloaded with the length of hose I have on it. I might like it better if it were less loaded.

It replaced a "Yard Butler" which worked very well for quite a long time, until the cheap Chinese steel gave way. Maybe 15 years or so? I bought ours at the local Ace Hardware store (Weaver's, the best hardware store on the planet!) but they have them in other places too.

How much hose do you have on it? I have 100' of 5/8" hose and it's the perfect amount for the standard capacity model, which is rated for 125' of 5/8" hose or 100' of 3/4" hose. If you've put more hose than the recommended amount on the standard capacity model, you need an extra-capacity kit for ~$24 which increases the width of the hub by 4". This will allow up to 200' of 5/8" hose or 170' of 3/4" hose on the reel. They even have a quad-wheel kit for ~$73 that adds two more wheels to the standard capacity model for the best stability.

Also, you know that there's a cam-lever brake that regulates the tension on the reel, right? You can easily adjust the tension with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Eley recommends having the brake on for unreeling, but if you want the reel to rotate completely freely with no tension, just flip the brake off.

100 ft of 3/4" hose and it's too much for the unit. I'll have to check the reel tension, that could very well be my issue.

Thanks for posting. It looks like a very nice piece of equipment.

I'd need a 4-wheel unit. Extra capacity too. That drives the price up to $370 + shipping; I'd guess $400 total. For that price I'll first check into installing a frost-free spigot. I'm thinking I can have a plumber install one for $500 and it will put my hose 20 feet from my car port where I wash cars. Even with the Eley unit, it'd still be a PIA to reel out that much hose as I have to pull it back up hill and still have to make a 2nd connection down in the front yard. I need about 175 feet of hose to comfortably wash the cars.

Geeked out yesterday. I installed an outdoor WiFi antenna to shoot signal out to a remote building that was never wired for low voltage. I used a TP-Link CPE510, which I bought quite a while ago but never installed. It uses PoE (Power over Ethernet) so all I needed to run was ethernet and a ground wire. It still meant clambering around the roof trusses! The result works well but I will doubtless lose some signal strength when the leaves come back.

Back from the semi-retired.

I pulled the trigger today on a 4-post Challenger 9000 lb. lift. Extra long ramps to protect low noses, two hydraulic scissor jacks to protect my ancient back and knees from having to crawl around on the floor to change a wheel or brake pad. It should be here in a couple of weeks.

We've also been hard at work landscaping but I doubt anyone but us would notice. I'll spare you landscaping foo and try to just post pics of the lift.

I pooh-poohed our Eley hose reel earlier. I take it back. It's fantastic. The brake mechanism had gotten slightly jammed, and I had not noticed. Now that it works correctly it is a wonder.

I'm glad that you discovered the problem! I'd hate to think you spent that much money on the Eley and weren't satisfied with it!

Glad to hear that you're getting a lift! I have to do with our QuickJack since we have a beam that runs all the way across our 3-car due to bedroom being above the garage. Still makes things way easier though!

Having a lift is such a game changer. Make sure you post pics when you get it installed. Thoroughly enjoying this thread

It's all good. Any lift is better than no lift. BTY I finally installed my yard hydrant (frost-free spigot) in late May. What a pleasure to just pull 50 feet of hose instead of 150.

A couple of updates.

First of all, I *finally* received the extensions for the rolling jacks on the Challenger lift, so that I could actually pick up cars by their jacking points. What a nightmare that has been. I have nothing good to say about the Challenger company, its regional sales rep, or the local vendor I did business with. It took me months upon months of constant badgering to finally be allowed to grossly overpay for parts that I should have been told right up front I would need. Take this as advice if you want or just as a gripe, makes no never mind to me. But I am finished with them.

Secondly I used said jacks and extensions to lift our E350 4Matic wagon, which is not exactly a feather at nearly 4400 lbs. Nevertheless I was a bit surprised when I got the jacks set, lifted the car, then lowered the lift to work on the car; the lever operating the safety locking mechanisms at each corner was binding! I did manage to get the lift secured and went on with my tasks. I think the lift bowed a bit in the center from having the full weight of the car more closely concentrated there due to the jacks. But this happened on a 9000 pound rated piece of equipment. I'm going to take a closer look at the safety lock operation, because I have already found 2 other goof-ups from the original installation and maybe the installers screwed something else up. Sigh.

Better news: we changed the weather vane from a tiny little black aluminum chicken to a great big shiny (for now!) copper chicken. The entire process of finding the thing and getting it put up there would make a saga in and of itself. Short version: I had to invent an entirely new mounting arrangement, build it, install it, then assemble the darned bird and all its assorted other bits up there on the roof, one piece at a time. And I hatehatehate being up on roofs. But it is up there at last, and I have no broken bones.

I have my toolbox out there now too, and that's great. But I still need to settle on the final layout, get a bench vise, and mount it securely. Otherwise I am constantly shuttling from garage to house and back every time I need to hold something still, which is often.

We also put up the biggest shelf unit Home Depot sells, a huge 90" x 90" x 24" beast of a thing that weighs 200 lbs. and required every inch of the carrying length inside the Kombi to get home from the store. For scale, that's a 6 foot extension ladder next to it in the picture. I already have it 3/4 filled with car minutiae despite telling my wife she could have half of it.

Latest addition. I hope these links work! I started this project before my dad entered his final days, back in mid-September. With all of the stuff surrounding his passing this whole project went on the shelf and stayed there. Finally this week I've been able to get back to it.

Well done!!!!
So convenient and so well-thought to include proper attic storage, electric hoist, etc.

Hey....is that a Rogue Engineering X-Pipe?? Are you installing it on your ride....or is it for sale??
