Z4M Shift Knob Leather Replacement?

So I noticed today that the leather on my shift knob is peeling and cracked. What are my options? I was surprised that a replacement is > $150. Is it possible to re-cover these? If so, anyone have any recommendations?

If you don't care about the lighted feature on the knob, I would just replace it with a ZHP knob. It's about $80. Most of us preferred the weighted ZHP knob over the OE "gooseneck" knob.

I was thinking that. Although; how does it perform with the AutoSolutions SSK? I've read that it is a little too short with the shorter throws, although I've shifted my car by holding the stock knob in the middle and it felt like it might be good.

I swapped mine for the F10 M5 lighted knob. It is basically a lighted ZHP knob. If you want the OEM one I can sell you mine. It is in perfect shape.

How much is the F10 M5 knob and how much would you want for your OEM?

Here is the M5 knob and boot. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...d/25112284205/

You have to take the knob off the boot as ours is a different shape. It was pretty easy to do.

I would probably let my OEM go for $75 bucks.

Many of us that put in the F10 M5 knob used the boot that came with it.
Much nicer leather than the OEM boot. Just needs a little bit of trimming.

oooh... very tempting... so ZHP or your OEM I think is in the right budget for me. Just trying to decide of the ZHP would be too short in conjunction with the SSK?

Do you have an SSK? I love the look of that performance knob but not a big fan of Alcantara. I guess my hands are too sweaty

Yes I do. I was fortunate enough to pick up an Autosolutions SSK from a forum member here. It made a world of difference for me with the SSK and the new knob. Shifts are short precise and very mechanical.

For me, the stock and the ZHP shape felt awkward compared to the M Performance knob. Although I actually preferred the shape of the ZHP aesthetically.

My hands also do get sweaty from time to time but the material has held up well.

LeatherZ sells the illuminated ZHP knob by itself - that is what I have and yes it is a little shorter (which I like better anyway) but is weighted so it does not feel like it is shorter. I never looked back once I put mine on - I love it and think it is perfect.

I have the AutoSolutions SSK with the ZHP shift knob. It works fine for daily driving and isn't annoying, but I think I might prefer the setup with a taller knob like the stock Z4M piece.

I believe this the same as the F10 M5 lighted shift knob. I found it here for 138.00(and it comes WITH the boot) http://www.sparesdeals.com/index.php...product_id=304

It is kind of amusing to see the price is typically around $200 at most places. When I put mine in a few years ago it was $120 everywhere.

There is one of us born every minute!! I actually think I grabbed mine because it was on sale then, but still not as cheap as $120 and did not come with the boot. I already had a new boot anyway.

I have AS SSK and I love my storm motorwerks V1. I've went through OE, ZHP, M5 knob, ACS knobs. The V1 is my favourite knob.

There's a thread around here somewhere with tips on how to fit the F10 boot to the Z4 console.

All the tips and guides in this thread have been awesome.

My only issue was that the LED cable connection wouldn't separate easily. The housing for the car's side of the LED cable broke apart and I now have a live wire sitting inside my leather.

I can probably just throw electrical tape on it for now, but does anybody have any clue on how I'd go about replacing that wire housing?
