Part of the terms of carriage in the passenger ticket contract lets them substitute ports for any reason, so 3-4 day cruises to the Bahamas may find themselves going to St. Thomas, Haiti, and/or Key West if port dock/tender slots are available.

I was on a cruise out of NYC in January one year. The crew had the barf bags in all stairways and public areas as we boarded, and the captain made an announcement before we even left the pier that we would be sailing into a strong nor'easter with (near-hurricane) 65-70 MPH winds and 28 foot seas within two hours of leaving the harbor in case anyone wanted off.

I actually sailed on this very ship a few years before these pictures were taken:

Yeah....we had a tradeshow to be at Wednesday-Friday in Charleston SC this week. I guess I will find out tomorrow if it gets cancelled.

Hope everyone else in its path stays safe.

Given the lead time involved in transport and set up for trade shows, it seems like it should already be cancelled.

...unless the trade show was The Sandbag and Rowboat Expo, in which case the local community would probably appreciate the free samples.....

Nobody should be mocking this storm - since it has the POTENTIAL to devastate

It was still "on" just last week. But when this all started, they were also saying that it would make landfall in the islands with much less impact, and weaken quickly after that as it went west.

Then within the next 1-2 days, their entire story changed.

Pron going so can’t complain.

Had some very minor winds yesterday but nothing earth shattering. Milk, eggs and bread still stocked so no worries here.

So that explains why it’s moving so slow.

I'm not mocking it, since half of my family lives in Evacuation Zone A and has been ordered to leave for yet another storm. At least they can make their own hotel reservations without my help this time.

Before Sandy, the only thing on my "Must have before I die" list was a house on the beach. I lived a few blocks from the water and was fine but those closer were wiped out. Property values plummeted and of course they couldn't sell without big loses. It's only been 7 years but they are selling now. My list has changed. I'll rent a house on the beach when I want to go.

Stay safe everyone.

Wife just talked to her sister in Charleston( Daniel Island). It got a bit rough for a while but they weathered Dorian pretty well. No home damage, no flooding near the house and didn’t lose power. Hope it keeps tracking offshore some and y’all in N.C. dont get walloped.
