Along with the cold hunting idle, does your exhaust smell very rich? Mine does, which is kinda cool, but prob a bit of a waste haha!

Thanks!

Not sure. Would have to ask Evolve but there's a decent chance.

With headers and my dirty stock air filter, I was already running pretty rich (at cold start it was very noticeable), so the gas smell was nothing new.

Now that I have a (huge!) clean air filter, it might even be a little better now. Cold start is still rich and gas smelling .

When it's been idling for about 25 secs it starts to shake the car as it transitions from 1100rpm to 1000 before settling at 900

Lol it's so Motorsport-esque lol

I haven't noticed that but I have noticed that when I'm puttering around, in and out of my garage(making a 3 point turn), sometimes I'll let out a bit to much clutch, bringing the idle a bit low and car will do it's usual hesitation from being just above stall. But now, it will shake a little bit and recovers with some balls like the car is refusing to quit. Reminds me of a bull, snorting in anger.

One thing that I kept thinking about before I got my airbox was, at what RPM the airbox comes alive. I've noticed that it really has nothing to do with RPM. I can make this thing scream at any RPM. Once our Exhaust Fest videos are done, there should be some good audio of us launching.

Once you break a certain throttle threshold (just throwing a number out there but lets say 60%), the airbox will come alive. I can throw my foot down and the car will bark pretty much anywhere in the range.

Likewise, if I go easy on the throttle, I can get up to 5k without scaring small children and puppies. It's all about how hard you come down on that throttle and how much air you pull into the intake.

Yeah, def needs a few mins to warm up (I stalled the zed for first time the other day pulling out of my parking space on an incline) but once it's warm, it does go!! It's loud isn't it!

I was initially worried from the videos that the "CSL sound" wouldn't be pronounced enough. Boy was that stupid. There's a tunnel by my house. I floor it so hard in there it sounds like I'm peeling the paint off the walls.

I'll try to record one. So far, I've had passengers recording stuff on their cell phones. This damn thing is going to make me shell out for the black series Go-Pro.

Thanks Evolve

Yup it got the full treatment. It was just yesterday so there will be quite a wait for the all the data and footage to be collected and then edited. But it is out there

All positive. My setup was not stock. Running the following:
RPI Scoop / Evolve CF Airbox / Euro Headers / US Section 1 / DKF Hangers / Strömung Exhaust

But the Airbox sort of makes me forget I have an exhaust anyhow.

Was driving solo today so I made an attempt using the third hand I didn't have. It didn't come out well but I'll just throw it up. I'll do another one later where I give it more throttle and have someone holding the camera better.

It is very difficult to capture the sound accurately. The best one I have seen/heard is with an external mic connected to a Go Pro with the mic being placed in the engine bay.

My install is now finished. Went with the Euro M3 headers (sourced through Donovan) and new Euro cats (sourced through Euroactive) along with the Evolve CF plenum. Figured mine had 60K on them anyway and will be good to have them to revert to stock if that ever was necessary.

Have listened to all the videos posted on You Tube for the M3 CSL before doing this. While they are awesome, they simply do not compare to what one experiences live inside the car. It is that good. I may never turn the stereo on again, lol! Keep in mind the Z4M is considerably lighter than even the E46 CSL, so the whp increase is indeed noticeable. Have not yet visited a dyno, that is one for the future.

Special thanks to Rizwan at Evolve, Woots (for being the prototype Z4M for Evolve), Devious21 for providing me with installation tips, Bullet Performance in Costa Mesa for getting me through the stickier parts of this and all the board members who posted advice and how-to for the Euro exhaust options. Will post pics when time allows.

Note: The MR is approximately 3200 lbs. curb weight. These modifications, along with some other changes, reduce weight by about 75 lbs. The E46 CSL weighed 3050 lbs.

Installation photo

The installation went well. Have not yet gotten all the way into it, it really makes quite a scream at higher revs. So much that it will surely attract unwanted attention. Made an early morning date for Mulholland Hwy, lol!

Intake temps way down now, only 2-3 degrees F above ambient. For reference, the aFe / RPI setup that was on the car previously lowered the intake temp between 3-5, but it was still at least 6+ ambient under best circumstances.

Planning to find a dyno at some point.
