Well....just returned from the Midwest trip and MAN was it hot !! It was a 50 year record bender at all days over 100-108-113 degree's !!
And the humidity ranged from 70-100% to top it off, whew ! Roadkill was dissolved into soup within hours and the butterflies and bugs were falling from the sky dead ! Anyway.....my visit to the Poly optical glass manufacturer went great ! After about an hour of detailed meetings and process discussion through the plant...it was determined that my designs and molds would work great. I was super happy to see their final products and realize our cars will look great with these. I liked their tint choices, materials, CNC trimming methods,Oven eqpt.,framing inks, etc. Next is for me to prepare my molds to best fit their process and begin tooling jigs etc. I hope to have a prototype on my car to photograph and test drive by end of Sept.this year ! |

Well....due to my landlord selling his property, looks like I'm looking for a new shop this month instead of working on my molds !
Oh well.....I needed more space anyway..change can be good, I just didn't want to add another 1500.00$ a month to bills already.... ( I'll duplicate this comment in the other thread.) |

Just a quick and dirty image of the materials I'll be working with >>
I had my GF stand behind the Acrylic pane with a G2 Gatorade bottle while in the hot 108* heat/sun while I was in Missouri a few weeks ago to illustrate the UV and light transfer ---( just look at her washed out shirt/top.) I also held my arm under it while holding the pane flat to sun......it was an amazing 'FEEL' difference on how much of the sting from the sun it took out ! Also...I'll be able to exactly replicate the dot matrix used by BMW's OEM glass manufacturer so all of the glass to Acrylic transitions match ! Anyway...all good news within the materials and its coatings. By the way....if need be, I was informed that THIS particular material can be easily tinted additionally at your local Llumar window tint shop if one felt the need ! Cheers, Vinny |

Thanks guys !
Here is a pic of the dot matrix from our cars that will be replicated on the clear tinted roofs when done. It should look identical ! |

A dumb question...what is the purpose of having the dot matrix? Why is the transition from glass to acrylic needed? Is it mostly for cosmetic only?
