I think it would be difficult to incorporate this feature on the Z4M and keep the width of the current splitter. This is mostly due to the relatively short bumper especially in front of the tyre. Being able to change the aero balance has been on my mind. I have got a few ideas but that is all they are at the moment. |

I have done a little bit more work on the Canards. I have created a bi-plane version with a smaller secondary item that sits higher. There is quite a bit less space here so I had to reduce the chord.
The design is starting to flow quite nicely with the sharp edges matching the rest of the car and the endplate detail returning on the splitter. The additional element provides extra downforce due to a local suction and pressurisation increase. It also yields a further improvement in downstream flow management by improving the energy near the bottom of the tyre and a little bit more adjacent to the wheel. The illustration below shows the flow energy distribution with no canard on the left, one canard in the middle and the bi-plane two canard setup on the right. High energy in red and low energy in blue. Ever since I started posting here I have had a lot of interest. So first of all thanks very much for all the replies and private messages it is much appreciated. The design of the canards are getting more and more finalised. Based on the amount of positive feedback and interest I am considering selling these to our Z4 community! If you would be interested and haven’t already let me know could you please reply or send me a private message? If you would like to see tweaks to the design or have any recommendations then please get involved as well! The next step is to increase the size and width. |

After approximately 4 days of scanning the Z4MC we have got the data we need. The blue laser scanning allowed us to capture hundreds of millions of data points all over the car. This is not just for the Canards and Splitter but also for other future projects I have in mind.
Here a little sneak peak of the setup. The scans allow us to reverse engineer hard points, mating faces and establish no-go zones. What is very encouraging is that the photogrammetry is already very accurate in the easy to reach areas. The illustration below shows a partial capture of the underneath. The next step is to reverse engineer the local surfaces and start finalising the Canard Design. |

It appears there is a lot of interest in these side covers across the owners. I am surprised no-one has picked this up yet! For a copy/replica you could create some moulds from the original part. The 3D scanning and reverse engineering tends to become more interesting when creating new parts and functionality.

Apologies for the delays in posting an update, a few weeks of holiday does that to you. Things are going well with the external canard surfaces finalised and ready to go.
We are now in contact with a variety of suppliers trying to pick the best for not only these parts but for any other projects in the future. We are working on a nice mounting method that would aerodynamically seal it to the bumper and leave no fixings exposed. Good progress is being made on the splitter as well with many more CFD runs performed. The reverse engineering of the bumper mounting faces is complete as well as the main external geometry. There will be more information posted on this later! Hopefully we will have more information soon with regards to the production stage of the canards. Let us know what you think! |

This looks very nice and appreciate you making new parts for the community!
Maybe I am alone with this but I would be interested in seeing something more track-focused, similar to what BW offers. An off-the-rack large chassis-mounted splitter with aggressive dive planes is not currently offered for the Z4/Z4M.

Thanks for your continued interest M-Cast! A bit of an update for everyone
Over the last few months I have been in contact with various composite companies both local and around the world. The majority of which produce parts for Formula One, premium car brands and other racing series. One of the main reasons for delays is finding the correct partner that understands the requirements and also the cost bracket. It is very easy to reduce the costs by simplifying the design or going to more entry-level production methods. Both would unfortunately reduce the end-product quality on aerodynamics, weight, finish, durability etc. The good news is that I am in contact with a very well known brand that makes composites parts. We share a very similar view on quality & design. The aim is to collaborate on a multitude of projects! We have had various discussions and I hope we will kick off the Canards soon! In the meantime I have continued work on the splitter as well as several other projects! @[F360C] Making the splitter bigger would definitely increase the downforce. The latest version has more overhang and also extends much further under the car than anything else available on the market. To top it off I have added some other details that generate a lot more downforce @[Azeka1]Thanks for your comments! I understand your concerns and observations on wanting something more aggressive. As in the comments to F360C, the latest versions is certainly packing more of a punch and I am not finished yet! The splitter is also being developed to be chassis mounted and will feature much more detailing than just a flat plate to extract more performance from it! The Canards are also quite different to the majority available on the market in that they don't just rely on stagnation pressure. As a result they will be less draggy and generate more front downforce! I am happy to increase the size though if that is attractive to both the track and street minded owners Feel free to reply if you are happy with the way it is or you want it more aggressive! |

Shouldn't the sides of the canards point upwards instead och downwards to keep the air from slipping off the canards?
