Rod Bearings

Greetings. Has anyone had the "courage" to install a new set of rod bearings themselves? If so, I'd like to read all about it. Thanks!!

You can probably find more info on the e46 M3 forums. Here's one example:

Did mine towards beginning of the year. It's actually not a bad job in the Z4M because you get quite a lot of room. Just take your time. I used the DIY's that are floating around the internet.

Thank you!! Did you use a stretch gauge or did you angle torque?

Angle torque with a nice Snap-On torque wrench

Don't forget to check your oil pump pressure regulator piston while you're in there

I have the CDI Torque & Angle 1/2 Drive version. Very similar to the Snap-On. I'll use it this weekend to reinstall the aluminum reinforcement plate under the Z4. Had to look for the nuts, bolts and sockets that disappeared ;~).
Also, did you use OEM bolts? Lift or jack stands? Thanks!!
Guido, I've received the DLC-coated stainless steel piston from Burkhart in Deutschland. Alas, they didn't carry a replacement spring.

You could buy part number 11411706809 and compare if it's the same spring as in the s54 oil pump

This is a coil spring that is used in the oil pump of the euro e36 m3 3.0 and in the US e36 3.2 M3, and it's also the same spring as in used in most chain tensioners.
It's a cheap part:

Be sure to use that strange torque procedure as described in TIS if you replace the conrod bolts
(so 1x complete torque procedure for plastigauge, 1x complete torque procedure for prestretch and 1x complete torque procedure for final fitting)
